During the 19th century, pirates used Jolly Roger flags to intimidate other ships and hook flags to notify them of when the captain was itchy. Study the art of oceanic communication with this Groupon.

$24 for a Pirate Treasure Hunt and Sailing Adventure for Two ($50 Value)

Swashbucklers climb aboard the 49-passenger, US Coast Guard–certified Bluefoot and set sail along the south Florida coast in search of treasure on a 90-minute adventure. Sporting fearsome face paint, junior buccaneers can romp about the deck and aim water cannons at high-seas adversaries. The crew advises passengers to pack sunscreen, caps, and weather-appropriate ruffled shirts, as voyages launch rain or shine. Refreshments may be purchased onboard the ship. Parents must accompany children, and kids aged 2 or younger are admitted for free.

Bluefoot Pirate Adventures

The pirates have taken over the ship, their ebullient singing and laughter filling the salty sea air and alerting those around them that this is no ordinary vessel. One of these rowdy buccaneers halts his sea chantey to lift his eye patch, smudging his dark beard in the process, which elicits giggles from his fellow sailors sporting similar face paint. These freebooters are not gruff pirates, but rather youthful adventurers partaking in one of Bluefoot Pirate Adventures’ daily cruises along the crystalline waters of the south Florida coast.

Dedicated to both educating and entertaining kids of all ages, Bluefoot Pirate Adventures’ crew of well-trained staffers keeps wee passengers enthralled with action-packed aquatic outings. Before shipping off on the U.S. Coast Guard–certified Bluefoot, sea-dogs-in-training partake in a buccaneering crash course replete with face painting, pirate-slang translations, and studies on the linguistic evolution of landlubber. Journeys embark from the Bahia Mar Yachting Center in search of a treasure chest's lost key and culminate with an epic water-cannon fight with the nefarious Barnacle Bill. Upon docking, junior pirates receive an official certificate and a take-home bag of booty.

The Groupon Guide to: Phone Greetings

Any boring person with a tongue in their face can pick up the phone and say “hello.” Here are some creative ways to answer your phone:

  • "Hi, who is this? No, don’t tell me! I want to have a confusing conversation."

  • "Hello, you’ve reached the Walking and Talking hotline. I just got a brand-new mobile phone, so I’ll be moving around my house and going to the bathroom while I talk to you."

  • "Gavin sucks! Just kidding, Gavin, you don’t suck. Oh, this is Gavin’s mom? Oh, I’m so sorry, Mrs. Gavin. I’ll go get my mom."

  • "Hello, Culver household. Margaret speaking. Edmond listening. Children not listening but tucked snugly in their beds. Fear hiding quietly under the floorboards."

  • "Hey there! Thanks for calling! I’m busy, so call back and leave a message."

  • "Hey there! Oh gosh darn it, you were trying to leave that message, weren’t you? OK, here we go again."

  • "Hey there! OH, SHOOT! OH, SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT!"

What’s with Gavin’s voice?
