The Fine Print

The need to feel the wind in your hair is best fulfilled by skydiving, though it can also be fulfilled by hot-rodding in a convertible or getting yelled at by a giant who works at the bank. Feel the rush with this Groupon.

Choose Between Two Options

  • $145 for a tandem skydive and subsequent AFF ground school (a $318 value)
  • $285 for a tandem skydive and subsequent AFF ground school for two (a $636 value)

Following an hour of training and a turboprop flight up to 14,000 feet, visitors strap into a four-point harness secured to their tandem skydive master's harness and chute. Duos leap from the plane into a more than one-minute free fall, feeling the rush of the air and punching passing cloud animals in the face before the instructor engages the chute and the pair floats safely to the ground. Then guests attend a six- to eight-hour AFF ground school, where certified instructors divulge the physics of skydiving and aerial safety. The program is designed for students with the goal of diving solo one day.

Skydive Alabama

Helmed by an by ex-military parachute-regiment veteran who holds three World Skydiving Championship medals, the United States Parachute Association-certified instructors at Skydive Alabama fly customers up to heights of 14,000 feet for solo and tandem dives. The skydiving center supplies oxygen for these jumps, and conducts both ground schools and eagle-impersonation classes to get first-timers and experienced divers ready for their aerial plunges. Instructors take up to 18 participants to the height of the drop zone in a Grand Caravan turboprop plane, from which they free fall for more than one minute, either by themselves or securely fastened to an instructor. A professional videographer can also join visitors on each jump to capture the aerial experience.

In accelerated free-fall programs, instructors lead students through a ground school, up to seven flights with instructors, and several solo jumps, allowing them to earn their USPA diving license without having to compete a multiple-choice test inside a wind tunnel. While every dive takes place in the designated drop zone, ground-school classes are held inside the airport's dedicated hangar. The airport complex also boasts four cabins for overnight stays, a spectator area, and a restaurant where chefs serve up Southern comfort fare.

The Groupon Guide to: Owl Food

Owls are not only the wisest of all the great birds in the sky but they're also the hungriest. Given the opportunity, owls will attempt to eat any of the following:

  • A mouse
  • A small rabbit
  • A mouse riding a small rabbit
  • A roller skate that has burger meat inside it
  • A large bug
  • A potato with cardboard mouse ears stuck on with toothpicks
  • A photo of a cow that makes it look like it's the size of a mouse
  • A dirty brown tennis ball rolling down a hill

Under what circumstances will an owl eat a cow?
