Old masters rewarded observant art critics by hiding things in their paintings, such as discreet self-portraits and lewd caricatures of the queen. Learn saucy brushstrokes with this Groupon.

Choose from Three Options

  • $39 for a three-hour BYOB painting class for two, available on weeknights and Sunday afternoons and including all supplies (an $80 value)
  • $75 for the above three-hour BYOB painting class for four (a $160 value)
  • $95 for a two-day art workshop for one (a $195 value)

Two-day art workshops take place on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On the first day, beginning students learn the basic principles of drawing, paint blending, and color theory before they delve into their own Cubist-inspired masterpiece. They’ll return the next day for more-advanced drawing techniques and a discussion of media design, as well as to explore tracing patterns and using pastels—all culminating in the creation of a mixed-media billboard. Call for available class dates.

Both Sides Art

An elegantly stenciled gray, metal door heralds Both Sides’ studio space, an attention-focusing haven of clean lines, white walls, and ample natural light. It’s planted in Pilsen’s main arts corridor, meaning that students need only wander down the block to soak up inspiration from other galleries.

Within this space each day, the instructors at Both Sides Art aim to stimulate the left and right sides of their students' brains with art classes that encourage wild flights of creativity grounded in a solid grasp of technique and history. Adult courses take place weekday evenings and cover topics such as drawing for beginners and abstract painting. While enjoying a BYOB glass of wine or sippy cup of champagne, students learn essential skills such as drawing 3-D images, handling oil paints, and poetically telling off their inner critics.

The Groupon Guide to: Talking to Dogs

The mutual affinity between humans and dogs is often hampered by a natural language barrier. Fortunately, if spoken in an affectionate tone formerly reserved for babies, dogs are able to fully understand any of the following phrases:

  • “Whoosa good boy?”
  • “Go forra walk?”
  • “Thank you for that bird, but I don’t want that bird! Wanna go bury that bird? Who’s gonna go bury that bird?”
  • “Chew up this evidence of mail fraud! That’s my girl.”
  • “Wait a minute, who’s secretly been a dog-shaped pile of laundry this whole time? That’s right—YOU have!”

Can dogs really understand these phrases?
