Running was popular in Europe long before it caught on in America, which is why most races are measured in kilometers and why most of the Pilgrims were eaten by bears. Race to the top of the food chain with this Groupon.
$15 for Youth Triathlon Entry ($30 Value)
Designed for kids aged 6–12, the co-ed triathlon kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, at West Salem Courthouse Fitness Club. Youngsters can opt for the short course’s 50-yard swim, 0.5-mile run, and 1.5-mile bike ride, or the long course’s 100-yard swim, 1.5-mile run, and 3-mile bike ride. Participants glide in the water of the Courthouse Fitness pool, dash through Wallace Marine Park, and pedal over a pedestrian bridge and around Riverfront Park. Each entry includes a bib number, a T-shirt and a completion medal. For more information, see the race page.
Presented by Courthouse Fitness, Salem Health and Salem Electric, Tri4Kids’s youth triathlon accommodates different ages and fitness levels with twin courses—one long and one shorter. To cater to youngster’s smaller proportions, neither course reaches full-blown triathlon scale. However, both still challenge kids to swim, run and bike vigorously, unlike lax triathlons that only require participants to shower, walk, and hold a bike upright.
