True connoisseurs can taste the character of a city in its beer, especially those cities constructed mostly from hops and barley. Sample the sudsy side of San Diego with today's Groupon: for $89, you get a luxury brewery tour for two from Brew Hop (a $190 value).

A snappier version of Brew Hop’s full five-hour brewery tour, the 2.5-hour Beer Taster excursion will shuttle you and a guest around your choice of one or two of San Diego’s top meccas for fermented grain-juice. Possible options include The Lost Abbey, Port Brewing Company, AleSmith Brewing Company, La Jolla Brew House, Green Flash Brewing Company, Ballast Point—the makers of Yellowtail Pale Ale, Wahoo Wheat Beer, and more—and local favorite Stone Brewing Company, which stirs up beloved choices such as Stone Pale Ale and the inveterately tasty Arrogant Bastard. The choice is up to you.

Brew Hop provides a classy experience both at the breweries and in transit. A luxury Lincoln Navigator will pick you up from the location of your choice and drive you to your destinations. Besides letting you act out your favorite memories from prom and Grey Poupon commercials, this also lets you knock back any beers you buy from the brewery without running afoul of the fuzz. Each brewery visit consists of a 5- to 15-minute VIP tour of the facility with an expert brewmaster as your guide. Your libation leader will dispense fun facts on the process behind your favorite brews, tasting tips, and copious beer samples—including seasonal varieties—fresh from the brewery. All beer samples and bar gratuity are included in each tour.

Brew Hop's Beer Taster adventure will fill you with a satisfying mixture of brain food and belly beverages. Try to eat a good lunch beforehand, though—not all of the breweries will have a food menu or offer a food discount. You can buy up to two Groupons for a party of four, so schedule a Valentine's Day double date with your goateed evil twin from the Mirror Universe and his goateed significant other.

Reviews

Food & Wine magazine, San Diego Magazine, and Thrillist have all featured BrewHop, and four Yelpers give Brew Hop a perfect five stars:

  • Essentially, this is the equivalent of wine tasting for beer lovers. In a way, its even better since the brew-masters are approachable, passionate and interested in teaching you about their craft. If you have even the slightest interest in craft beer, I highly recommend a Brew Hop tour. – Erin E.
  • I would do this again in a heartbeat! And I would recommend it to all of my beer loving friends. The personal brewery tours were a great chance to actually get to talk to the brewers, themselves, not just the "tour guide". Fun! – julie m.
  • We took a trip with Brew Hop last weekend and it was the BEST! – Sara S.

Groupon Says

Trouble Brewing

Brewery tours are an American tradition dating back to the 1790s, when the vast majority of Americans actually worked in breweries—a system to which many legislators still hope to return. Until that day comes, brewery tours remain largely recreational, although these are a few you’ll want to avoid.

  • Bevvington Ale Brewery Tour and Unregulated Mineshaft Experience (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)
  • Loud Uncle Rick’s One World Government Stout Emporium (Santa Cruz, California)
  • Brooklyn Benny’s New York–Style Big Apple Brewery, (Plano, Texas)
  • Blüdenbier: The only American brewery run by draculas (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania)
