Questions and Answers

Hi Michael,
Each Groupon entitles you and a guest to attend the preview, so it’s good for two people. The Blondie concert is at the preview, so if you’re there you’ll get to see the concert. Seating is general admission, and it will be standing room only.
Hope that answers your question!

This looks like a GREAT groupon! Question: I will be purchasing it under my name, but I would like to buy the groupon as a gift for a friend. After I buy, will I have the opportunity to change the name on the membership?
Thanks! — Lisa
Hi Lisa,
Yes, you can gift this Groupon to a friend if you’d like. Tomorrow when you receive your Groupon via email, there’ll be a number to call to redeem it. Call that number and tell them that you’d like to give it as a gift. Please be sure you have the following information ready to give them:
1. Two names you’d like on the Membership (for the cards)
2. Their mailing address (for Membership info and invitation to 10/29 preview)
3. Their phone number and email address, so we can get in touch with them to let them.
Hope that answers your question!

Hi, The Fine Print shows an expiration date of 11/21/2009. Can you please tell me what the expiration is for? Can you confirm the dates that the pass would be valid during? Thanks! David
Hi David,
The expiration date, 11/21/2009, is the last day you can redeem your Groupon for a one-year Membership. So if you have no interest in coming to the Members Preview on October 29th, you can still come redeem your Groupon for a one-year Family and Friends Membership anytime before 11/21. If you redeem your Groupon anytime in November, your Membership expiration date for your Family and Friends Membership will be the end of November, 2010.
Hope that answers your question,
-Will
Ah, thanks for the clarification, but now i am a little confused, how does one redeem the membership? Can it be called in? I would like to use this groupon as a gift and ideally the pass would not be first used until December. Thanks!
Yes, if you purchase your Groupon today you can redeem it by phone tomorrow. So all you have to do is call, and then the Membership (for you, or for whomever you give it to) will be set up and good for one year. So even if it isn’t used until December, it will still be good until the following October. If you wait until November to redeem it, it will still be good until the following November.

Hi, Will, thanks for answering all of our questions. I have another one for you: is there any way for those of us who are already members to use this? My membership doesn’t expire until next summer.
Hi Tracy,
I was just about to reply to your comment on the Museum’s blog post. Yes, if you are a current Member you can purchase this Groupon and use it to renew your Membership for one year ON TOP of your current expiration date. So if you’re an Individual Member currently, you will be a Family and Friends Member for one year beginning the day after your Individual Membership expires. When you call or stop by to redeem your Groupon, just mention that you’re a current Member and they’ll use your Groupon to renew you for an additional year.
All the best,
Will
It’s clear from the responses to comments above, that the membership itself must be in the name of two specific individuals, but can one of those individuals bring a guest to the exhibit preview with Blondie. In other words, does that event have to be attended by the two members or can one of the members bring a guest who is not a member.
Hi Eden,
Two people are allowed to attend the preview, and at least one of them has to be a Member. If the second person on your Membership doesn’t (or can’t) come that night, then you are welcome to bring one guest who is not a Member. The invitation for that night admits two people, but only one of those people need be a member.

My personal experience with the BMA has been that they have always been wonderful and responsive to the few unusual requests I’ve thrown their way over the years.
Unless your request is waaay out there I would imagine it can be arranged to your needs.
Great groupon! Sadly, a little to far for this North Manhattanite to use often enough though. One more reason to move to Brooklyn. Any chance you’ll have a groupon for a Manhatttan museum or zoo anytime soon?

Pamela,
Thanks for the feedback! We are always certainly trying to get the best things in the NYC area, we are very pleased to have the honor of featuring the Brooklyn Museum and hope this is just the beginning of other great things to come!
Cheers,
Lina

I read the Blondie performance is during the preview 1-5? Do you have a specific time? As most of us have to work during the day I would love to sneak out early to try and catch the show. In addition, once the reception starts, can one still look at the exhibit? thank you
Hi Randi,
The Blondie performance (and it’s important to remember that it’s a short performance, and not a full concert) will actually take place during the evening reception which occurs from 6-10pm the night of the 29th. And the performance is just one small part of what will be going on that night. You can also view the exhibition (which will be spectacular), and there will be booksigning with the curator of the show. There will also be food and drink and a chance to meet fellow Brooklyn Museum members. The performance will happen towards the end of the evening.

thanks william… I see I was told the wrong info so thanks for clearing that up!!As a professional photographer who works shooting bands in the music industry, I am looking forward to seeing this exhibit!!! Cameras allowed???
Thanks for all the info – this is a great deal! Quick question: Once I’m a member, can I also bring a non-member as a guest for free admittance? Thanks!
Hi Randi,
Normally our photography policy allows pictures of our permanent collections, but unfortunately for this particular exhibition you can’t take pictures. That we know for sure. We are still working out the restrictions on shooting the band’s performance that night. The best thing to do is ask at the door when you arrive, and someone will have a firm answer for you. Alternatively, if you called the Membership Office the day before I’m sure someone will have an answer for you by then.
See you on the 29th!

Hi Kristine,
Yes, two people are allowed to attend the preview. So if you’re the Member, you can bring one other guest with you. The invitation, which you’ll receive in the mail once you redeem the Groupon, admits two people to the reception.
-Will
Thanks, Will. But actually, I meant for admittance to the museum in general (beyond the Preview event). Sorry for the confusion.
Ah, I understand Kristine. Only Members get free admission to the Museum. Besides yourself, you get one other person on your Family and Friends Membership and you both will get individual membership cards with your names on them. Only those two people—the people on your membership—receive free admission. Any additional guests must pay the recommended $10 admission fee.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the info!
Can someone please address how the concert is handling individuals with special needs – ie: wheelchair users? Thanks! (Given it’s ‘standing only’ – generally there is a cordoned of section near the front, given people usually cannot stand)
Appreciate your response and assistance.
Will, is there an email address that you can spefically be emailed at? I have a semi-lengthy question that I imagine you could answer. Thanks!
Sure, Erin, it’s william.cary@brooklynmuseum.org
Hi Tamar,
The space where Blondie is performing is wheelchair accessible. There will be a separate area for individuals with special needs, but we can’t determine where that will be until the stage is built. The best thing to do is to ask a staff member upon arrival and they can let you know where, specifically, someone in a wheelchair should go for the performance.
On a larger note, I should clarify that “standing room only” implies that there will be seats available but that they are already taken. There is no seating at this performance at all. Everyone, except those in wheelchairs, will be standing.

Will – thanks for all of your help and assistance. I am looking forward to spending more time at the Brooklyn Musuem! Michael
I just bought it for a family member. Thanks.
Does the second name of the person have to be in the same family, or can it be a friend?
Thanks.
Hi Benson,
The second name can be a friend, does not have to be a family member by any means.
Thanks for signing up,
Will
this was my first groupon purchase – when do I find out my confirmation info to call in?
Hi Tamara,
You should get your Groupon via email very soon (as in the next few hours). In the email will be instructions on how you can redeem it. It’ll be pretty straightforward.
-Will
In regards to the kids under 18, we can basically bring any kids under 18 up to 4 kids. Please clarify.
Hi Benson,
Yes, up to 4 kids under the age of 18.

Hi William, It’s not clear to me, if I am a member and I bring a friend, does the friend have to pay or is it covered with the membership I just purchased? Also, for the book signing, will books be available for sale? Thanks.
Hi Linda,
Two people are allowed to attend the preview, and one of them has to be a member. Whether the second person is also the second person on your membership or, alternatively, someone else (who is not a member) is up to you. Hope that makes sense.
Yes, exhibition catalogues will be available for sale that evening, and the show’s curator, Gail Buckland, will be signing them from 7:30-8:00p.m.
-Will

I missed this great deal, any chance you’ll do it again?
Hi Alice,
I think this will be the last time we do a deal like this in a while. I won’t say we’ll never do it again, but I can’t see us offering something like this for the foreseeable future.
Sorry you missed it!
-Will
Hi!
I just wanted to be 100% positive, I can bring a guest who is NOT a member to the “exhibition viewing for members only” from 1-5 pm, right? I wasn’t sure if that just applied to the reception from 6-10.
Thanks!
Hi Raphaela,
Yes, as long as you, the member, are coming you can bring a guest who is not a member. Each invitation admits two people, so as long as one of you is a member that is fine.
-Will
I got my tickets. See you on Thursday. Thanks for this great offer.

Just confused as the membership says for 2 and we won’t get confirmations till Wednesday, how do we are we certain seats will still be available? Thanks, Michael
