This is a great campaign for a wonderful and very deserving non-profit, Cabrini Connections. The matching sponsor, ContextMedia, has supported this program in the past, and it is great to see them jump in to contribute in a BIG way now. Thank you ContextMedia… for caring about your community and the deserving youth at Cabrini Connections who will directly benefit from your generosity!

I was a volunteer at Cabrini Connections a few years ago and the experience changed my life. This is a great organization that is actually doing things for the students, the community and the volunteers.

I’ve led Cabrini Connections since it was created in 1992 and previous to that I led the tutoring program when it was hosted by Montgomery Ward from 1965-1992.

The building where Groupon is located is a former Montgomery Ward office building and it is where the 2nd-6th grade version of the tutoring program operated from 1980-1999. Thus, it’s great to see this campaign led by Groupon volunteers reaching out to help Cabrini Connections find the dollars needed each year to support young people as they grow from 7th graders to high school graduates.

Programs like Cabrini Connections are needed in all poverty neighborhoods of the Chicago region and other big cities. Big companies like Groupon can have a huge impact on the growth and operations of these programs through the way they use their own visibility. Thank you for your support.

I have been involved with Cabrini Connections since 1995. The support they give to the students and the volunteers is extraordinary.

Chicago papers have been writing about youth mobs robbing people in downtown Chicago. One writer said “We are talking about black teenagers who almost certainly have not been giving a level playing field on which to develop.”

It’s been great that Groupon has drawn attention from its customer base to the work Cabrini Connections is doing to help inner-city youth have a “better playing field” on which to develop.

I hope that readers will read the articles at http://tutormentor.blogspot.com and begin to look for more ways to help Cabrini Connections and dozens of programs like them, get the daily bread each needs to try to offer these services to a growing number of inner city youth.

It will take much more than just one three-day campaign to make a serious dent in this problem.
