Calabogie Motorsports Park
Two-thousand feet of asphalt stretches into the distance, flanked by hundreds of pine trees. It might as well be an inch. About 3,400 pounds of metal surround a driver, who—as his hand grips the manual transmission's gearshift—unleashes the full power of a 350 HP V8 engine. The Mustang GT screams to life, zooming through 20 turns and conquering one of the longest motorsport tracks in all of Canada.
The classic Ford muscle car is only one mode of high-speed transportation at Calabogie Motorsports Park. In fact, you never know what you might see zooming around the track—Indy cars, motorcycles, or Italian super cars such as Lamborghinis. Calabogie welcomes them all, letting visitors drive their own vehicles or take one of the park's own sports cars out for a spin. The park sets less experienced drivers up with driving instructors, who can ride along during laps and go over each turn during a post-session analysis.
The track itself springs from the mind of Alan Wilson, a prolific designer of racetracks for cars, motorcycles, and karts. No design element is overlooked; the straightways and turns pass by lush forests in every direction. Nearby, a 10,000-square-foot clubhouse houses classrooms and rental garages. For extended stays, the grounds also encompass luxury hotel suites and campgrounds, which simulate the life of the pioneers who first drove their Lamborghinis across the untamed wilderness.
