The staff was so excited to talk about any questions we had. Very cute indoor area with animals and a planetarium that was awesome. We liked walking the grounds the best.

Educational museum, planetarium & nature trails spread across 105 acres of Florida swampland filled with wildlife

Without nature, humans would be forced to cultivate AstroTurf gardens and spend nights dreaming of electric sheep. Appreciate the natural world with today’s Groupon to the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium. Choose between the following options:

  • For $9, you get two adult admissions (an $18 value).
  • For $15, you get to adopt a constellation (a $30 value). The adoption includes:
  • Two free passes to the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium
  • Your name on a certificate displayed in the planetarium
  • One-year subscription to the monthly Abrams Sky Calendar

The 105-acre Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium entertains and educates visitors on a 105-acre plot peppered with native wildlife, an educational museum, and three trails snaking through natural habitats. Museum guests learn about the natural world as they commune with captive animals and plants, including native butterflies and a variety of tree frogs. An Audubon aviary houses injured hawks, vultures, and owls, as well as bald eagles preening for guests during breaks from modeling gigs for the quarter and $1 bill. Outside, guests can stroll along nature trails on the center’s grounds to spot all kinds of native plants and wildlife, and the Big Cypress Swamp Boardwalk allows explorers with wheelchairs or strollers to glide along stable paths. Sit back and stare up at the Media Globe dome theater's screen and learn the universe’s best-kept secrets under a breathtaking view of the stars.

With the adopt-a-constellation program, guests can stake their claim on prime cosmic real estate, such as Orion, the Hunter, and his eternal prey, Ursa Major, while supporting the nonprofit center. Universal adoption agents honor new celestial parents with a certificate displayed in the planetarium and two free passes to the center so that guests can check in on their hydrogen-fueled ward. Additionally, adopters can chart the universe with the monthly Abrams Sky Calendar, which helps amateur Galileos track the movements of moons, planets, and Death Stars.

Fun experience! early morning surprise date my boyfriend planned, turned into Lions & Tigers & (Ligers!!) & Bears! Oh my! We enjoyed the laughs+learning about each of the rescues within the sanctuary; for all being mostly exotic animals, they sure do have quite the personalities! Highly recommend for any one of all age’s! tour is roughly 1 hour long. No restroom access on tour. Volunteers needed!

This place was absolutely amazing. Not only did they have native species, they had invasive ones as well to educate about their threats to native ones.
