Choose Between Two Options

Students learn to cut and assemble hanging ornaments in the fused-glass-pendant class. Using the studio’s tools and all included materials, glass workers craft a decorative trinket, which staffers then fire in the kiln. Crafters can add a pin or bail to their project to transform it into a wearable piece of jewelry. Alternatively, crafters of any level can learn the beauty of refracted light during a two-hour stained-glass scrapbooking class, which guides participants through the steps of fashioning a wearable piece of scrapbook jewelry. Students bring in prints from home—such as copies of photographs, pieces of artwork, or important plot points torn out of _The Great Gatsby_—so they can sandwich their prized pictures between two 1.5”x1.5” sheets of clear, beveled glass. Pupils then solder the pieces of glass together and add embellishments, such as eye-catching wire wraps and beads.

Canterbury Stained Glass

Jeff Warmuth and the talented artisans at Canterbury Stained Glass draw on their nearly 40 years of experience crafting commissioned artwork to fill their showroom and teach others the art of glass manipulation. More than 40 educational programs—divided into short workshops and longer, weeks-long pursuits—focus on beginner, intermediate, and expert glass techniques of all sorts. Students can assemble glass jewelry, fuse patterned glass into bowls, or use their glass-blowing skills to build a see-through glass dome around endangered penguins. A fully stocked shop sells books, glass cutters, and other useful tools for finishing glassmaking and fusing projects.

The Groupon Guide to: Remaining Calm

Life is full of stressful situations that challenge our ability to remain calm. Whether you're in the middle of a heated debate or being chased by a gaggle of exes, use these techniques to remain even-tempered:

Take a Deep Breath: Feeling air slowly enter and leave your lungs will remind you that nothing really matters because we are all just balloons that move air around.

Count to 10: Ten is the most calming number because when turned sideways it looks like a thin man sleeping on a big, round rock. He's freer than any of us.

Think about Something Positive: You'll feel better if you imagine something peaceful such as a smiling child, a clear blue sky, or a horse playfully biting his master's hand.

Repeat a Positive Mantra: Many people are soothed by chanting "this too shall pass," and others like to repeat "I'm the one in charge, I sail my own barge."

Which number looks like a free man? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
