Marcio Santos has studied multiple martial arts, but his favorites are those that exploit leverage—Brazilian jiu-jitsu for ground-fighting, and capoeira for hypnotic, musical routines. At Capoeira Senzala USA, he trains students in the dance-like form, whose foot-to-foot springs and kicks often seem to breach the rules of gravity. His classes focus on technique as well as the cultural practices associated with capoeira, including the use of musical instruments, and accommodate both kids and adults with specialized programs.
