$199 for an Open-Water Diver Certification Course ($549 Value)

On the first day of the three-day open-water scuba-diving certification course, students stay in the classroom and in an outdoor pool, modeling scuba gear in a safe and controlled environment. On day two, Captain Rob brings them aboard the 27-foot Little Bugga for two 45-minute dives in the open water. The third day involves two more open-water dives. Certification is granted after participants pass four quizzes and a final exam. All dive equipment is included in the course, though students will need to purchase course textbooks.

Captain Rob's Scuba Diving

Rob—a licensed Coast Guard captain and PADI-certified master scuba diver trainer—is affectionately called Captain Rob by his clients. His eponymous company helps the uninitiated to explore underwater with PADI-certification classes that focus on open-water dives in open water. From his 27-foot boat, a Grady White called Little Bugga, the captain launches expeditions beneath the waves. His encyclopedic knowledge of the area's ecology, which includes marine life, shines as he explains it in detail to divers. He also uses his decades of experience to teach new boat owners how to fish or captain their vessel through turbulent waters and car washes.
