Captain’s Reel Deep Sea Fishing’s seasoned fishermen captain fishing tours to the inner reefs of Newport’s Yaquina Bay on U.S. Coast Guard–certified charter boats. The company equips fish-seekers with brand new, high-quality rods, reels, bait, tackle, and fish translation software before vessels ship groups up to 10 miles out to sea. During five-hour excursions, passengers hunt ling cod, sea bass, grouper, cabezon, sea trout, and china fish, and return to the dock with their captures, where they can invest in onsite filleting and cleaning services for additional fees. Fishermen can prepare for trips with warm, water-resistant clothing, sun block, and snacks, and bring along a cooler full of ice if they’re planning to take fish home to eat or to consult for relationship advice. All participants much purchase a one-day Oregon fishing license ($16/person), which is available onsite.

The fishermen could carry their bounties off in coolers, but by the time the boat reaches the marina, each angler stands clutching a fat salmon for all bystanders on the dock to see. After posing for photos and recounting the battle with the day's largest catch, the anglers drop by the on-site cleaning shop to have their hauls filleted, packed, and readied to take home.

Barbara and Jerry Powell—a third-generation fisherman with more than 50 years of experience—charter ocean adventures like these year round to fishing destinations such as the inner reefs of Yaquina Bay. Aboard USCG-inspected and certified boats, the Powells' team outfits anglers with well-maintained equipment to hook deep-sea creatures such as halibut, shark, and Aquaman. Alternatively, captains take parties into tidal waters to catch bay crabs, or journey out toward open waters on whale-watching cruises.

The crew at Captain's Reel Deep Sea Fishing recommends guests check out the trip-preparation and FAQ pages before they head out. Guides can also furnish one-day licenses to those who lack the proper documents.

The Groupon Guide to: Inedibles

Many things that resemble food—because of their crusty coating, sweet odor, or candy-like consumptiveness—are actually just common household objects, poisonous seed pods, or new friends. What are some things you may wish to eat but shouldn't?

Bath Beads: Though they're designed to look and smell like Gushers® Cherry Red Gelcaps with Liquid Extreme Rush Fluid, they have none of the delicious side effects. Bath beads are extremely foul-tasting, and should only be dissolved into a fragrant human soup to be used externally.

Buttons: Colorful handfuls of things are always food, right? Not necessarily. Your grandmother's unmarked mason jars may contain a variety of food to nonfood objects, from hundred-year-old gumdrops (technically food) to needles and other sewing implements (technically not food). Don't be fooled by her pincushion, either—it may look just like a tomato, but it actually tastes slightly worse.

Scented Candles: Legally speaking, there is no imperative against eating scented candles if no one is looking. That being said, someone will always be looking, so a scented candle that creates the illusion of melting lavender petals or fresh-baked cinnamon will make you the most popular person on your block!

Can owning a scented candle make you more popular?
