$164 for a PADI Open Water Diver Certification Course with Four Certification Dives ($375 Value)

Caribbean Dreams Diving's PADI professional instructors guide new scuba divers through two phases of the PADI Open Water Diver certification course. To complete the program, divers will need to register for PADI's eLearning, which costs an additional $130 (not included). This virtual classroom—which can be accessed from a computer, tablet, or smartphone—covers scuba essentials such as how pressure affects the body and how to plan dives, all while preparing students for quizzes on the subject matter. Divers then head over to the pool, where they are taught to assemble their diving gear and complete a pre-dive buddy safety check, before they enter the pool to breathe underwater for the first time. Instructors teach all necessary skills, such as how to clear water from a mask, equalize ears, and remove a leg cramp. After completing the five confined pool dives and all eLearning work, students and instructors lug their air tanks to a nearby body of water. In a controlled environment, students dive into real-world conditions during four open-water dives, which cap off the requirements for certification. Participants must be at least 12 years old, able to swim 200 metres, and able to tread water for 10 minutes.

Open-water dives are led from June to October, but eLearning classes are available all year long.

The Groupon Guide to: Types of Forks

The fork is one of the most important inventions of recent years, and since its debut fork makers have pushed themselves to be better fork makers, creating more than thousands of specialized forks. Here's a small sampling of the forks available in these fork-rich times that we live in:

  • Salad fork
  • Side salad fork
  • Soup fork
  • Swork (combination fork/sword)
  • Corn fork
  • Cutting fork
  • De-fatting fork
  • Finger fork
  • Baby fork for babies
  • Baby fork for small adults
  • Brork (fork made of bread)
  • Tork (toasted brork)
  • Flossing fork
  • Forkington M. Forksmith, the Fork with Plenty of Personality
  • Four chicken bones held between your knuckles
  • No-Chork™ the Fork That's Safe to Swallow
  • A stick, or nature's fork
  • Anything, because a fork is just whatever helps you get food from outside to inside your body

This year, I'm thankful for all these forks.
