  • $39 for a martini-making class with one gourmet cheese platter and one bottle of CD vodka for one (a $110 value)
  • $69 for a martini-making class with two gourmet cheese platters and two bottles of CD vodka for two (a $220 value)

During a 90-minute class, participants learn how to whip up martinis such as a straight-up martini, a cosmo, or a lemon drop using CD Vodka’s spirits. In between sips of their samples, they can savor artisan cheeses from the gourmet platter, then head home with a bottle of CD vodka to practice their new bartending skills. See class dates and times here.

CD Vodka

Before opening CD Vodka (formerly dubbed Mid-Oak Distillery), Matt Altman studied ancient Russian methods of vodka production. These studies inspired Altman to christen his vodka "CD" after Catalina Dynastii, which refers to the reign of Catherine the Great. At CD Vodka, Altman reprises the royal recipe with local ingredients: Illinois grains, Glenview bottles, and tags from Oak Forest. Distillers cork the bottles by hand, seal them with heat, and adorn their necks with tags that denote alcohol content and recent immunizations. Altman even chose to have local contractors build the tasting room. As mentioned in the Southtown Star, the 1,500-square-foot space plays host to group tastings that feature CD Vodka enhanced with flavors such as lemonade, cinnamon, and coconut. On the first Tuesday of every month, the distillery pours out a selection of seasonal flavored vodka.

The Groupon Guide to: Diner Speak

The main attraction to eating at a “greasy spoon” diner is to hear the delightful lingo the servers use to relay your order to the cooks. Many people will often order second and third meals just to hear the servers yell and then discreetly throw away the food. Here is a guide to their secret language:

Order: Double cheeseburger, medium rare, with pickles
Diner Speak: Double hockey puck made of meat with a pink soul and zombie nickels

Order: Turkey sandwich on rye, no mayo
Diner Speak: Professor Gobblington with a PhD in the economics of foreign grain markets, send the white stranger packing

Order: Two eggs, scrambled, with bacon and coffee, cream and sugar
Diner Speak: Twin albino footballs meet with a tragic accident, send the mother a crispy flag and fill the dark night with the first tragically beautiful snowfall of winter

Order: Pancakes
Diner Speak: Lil’ Sweetie Flat Breads starring Shirley Temple (1934)

Order: Pot roast
Diner Speak: Roast, pot-style

Zombie nickels: cause they’re soft, green, and dead feelin’
