During a tour that is designed for both first-time visitors to the city as well as residents, a Chicago Architecture Foundation guide introduces groups to some of Chicago's most impressive landmarks, including the Art Institute, Willis Tower, Wrigley Building, Chicago Theatre, and John Hancock Center. The tour begins at the Chicago Architecture Foundation, involves hop-ons and hop-offs of the "L" train (stairs are required), and ends at the intersection of Michigan and Chicago Avenue—the heart of the Magnificent Mile.

Chicago Architecture Foundation

Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF), a nonprofit organization, started several educational programs that could help locals and visitors appreciate the city's architecture, with a mission to inspire people to discover why design matters. They started leading walking tours of the Loop in 1970, and over the years they've expanded to many forms of urban exploration: boats, bus, bike, "L" trains, even Segways. Their volunteer docents lead tours after completing a graduate-level 10-week training program. In addition to hosting over 85 tours, the CAF hosts a variety of youth-education activities, lectures, special events, and rotating exhibits that highlight Chicago and its many communities.
