$15 for a Ticket to the Social Media Preview Day ($25 Value)

On Friday, February 8, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., ticketholders can join members of the traditional and social media to get an advance look at the Chicago Auto Show’s one million square feet of automotive innovation. Because the preview is not open to the general public, it provides the opportunity to browse the show’s nearly 1,000 concept and production vehicles amidst a relatively small crowd. Apart from perusing the vehicles themselves, the social media preview gives guests an insider’s look at the industry. In the past, automakers have used the event to unveil new products and packages, and this year, a trio of roundtable discussions will bring members of the automotive media together with industry representatives to discuss a range of topics. Among the discussions, Edmunds.com senior editor Bill Visnic will lead a session entitled “The Autonomous Car: How Do We Get There From Here,” Autoweek associate publisher Dutch Mandel will lead a conversation about the automotive press, and Cars.com senior editor Dave Thomas will present a discussion on how mobile devices are changing the way we shop for cars.

Chicago Auto Show

Over the course of the last century, everything has changed about the automobile—everything, that is, except the way people come together to celebrate it. Since 1901, the Chicago Auto Show has been uniting automakers with the American public, giving drivers and their families a chance to see and experience the auto industry’s newest releases and ideas.

Covering about 1 million square feet, the auto show allows guests of all ages to climb behind the wheels of a huge range of vehicles from manufacturers such as Chevy, Porsche, and Audi. Simulators, indoor and outdoor test tracks, and ride-and-drive courses give drivers the chance to interact with some of the autos or reminisce about a favorite driver’s ed teacher. The show complements the automotive feast with a variety of special events, such as live radio broadcasts and appearances from professional athletes.

However, the show is more than just a chrome-trimmed playground. Visitors can also take the opportunity to kick the tires and tickle the transmissions on hundreds of production vehicles to help search for their next set of wheels. Even for those not in the market, the show provides a way to explore the new technologies redefining our relationship with the road, from huge innovations like electric cars to nuanced advances in driver interactivity, such as the way new models connect to electronics such as iPads.
