Questions and Answers
I think this means you need to become a member (redeem/start membership) by 2/1/2010; the admission to the museum is free for one year after you start your membership. At least that’s how I read it. So if you start Nov 1, 2009 it’s good until Oct 31, 2010; if you get it 2/1/2010, it’s good until 1/31/2011.
Good Morning,
Erika is correct. You have until 2/1/2010 to start your one year membership. So basically you must go to the museum before 2/1/2010 and from the date you go in for the first time you will have a one year membership. Hope that helps!

There are 5 people in my family. Does “Valid for up to 4 admissions per visit” mean that my entire family would not be able to use the “family membership” on one visit?
My first groupon! The Chicago History Museum (nee Chicago Historical Society) is a very underrated place.
If I get the family membership, does it only apply to the same 3 individuals plus myself? Or can I take different people on every visit, as long as it is only 4 of us? Example: take my parents and sister on first visit, my girlfriend and her 2 brothers on another visit, etc… Or would it only apply for whoever I take on 1st visit with me?
In terms of the five people on the Family membership, if you have children under 12, they are always free…so they wouldn’t go towards the count. Otherwise, yes, technically it is for a total of four…but we have the nicest front desk in town :)
Alberto….it can be you and 3 guests everytime you visit…and they dont need to ever be the same three folks.
If we’re giving this as a gift to someone, how does that work? I would like to be able to give them the actual membership card with their name on it etc.
Thanks!
I know the member can get access to the research center, but can I take guests or will they still need to pay the $5?
Jennifer, you can give a gift membership in 2 ways. First, you can give your groupon directly to the gift recipient and they can bring the voucher to the Museum to redeem themselves. If you want to give them the gift packet yourself, you will have to visit the Museum, hand in your voucher, and submit the gift recipient’s contact information (name, address, phone, etc). Then we will give you a gift packet with your gift recipient’s membership cards.
Kathryn, the same rules apply for the Research Center. If you have an individual membership, you may bring one guest to the Research Center. If you have a family membership, 3 guests.

This really is an amazing deal! The simple fact that you can bring 3 different people with each visit is great – I know my children wouldn’t want me dragging them with each time I visit. I’m going to purchase this groupon and hope to learn as much as possible about Chicago. My family has been here since 1843 – I would love to know what life was like way back then.
Can’t wait for my first visit! :)

Pays for itself in one visit!
I didn’t get a confirmation number after I paid for my groupon. How will I be informed that my membership went through.
Marianne
When I go to the page to pay for an individual membership – It says “See below” but there is nothing on the page about the $20. individual deal – ?
Awesome!
May I just tell you that TODAY I was going to go there to buy a membership. Groupon is awesome!
Quick question: I specifically wanted to join because I want unlimited access to the research center. On the website it mentions that members get access, but it doesn’t here on Groupon. I will get unlimited access to the library, right?
Also, if I get the family membership, may I bring any guests I want, or is it meant for families only?
Sorry, I just read everything. Ignore my questions ;)
No worries Syamala….if you have more questions, send them on!
For everyone else’s benefit, I found a list of the other places within the Time Traveler’s Network:

Hi – I currently have a history museum membership that doesn’t expire until September 2010. If i purchase this Groupon can I extend the length of my membership by an additional year. So that my new expiration date would be September 2011 instead?
Hi all! A quick update from the Chicago History Museum:
Groupon purchasers, remember to “redeem” your membership to start using your member benefits!
-We’ve extended the date from to April 12 as the last day for redeeming your member certificate (formerly Feb. 1).
Your membership will begin the month that you redeem your Groupon, or extend 1 year from your current membership.
-There’s now an online option for redeeming your membership!
Go to: http://chicagohistory.org/support/groupon
Please have your Groupon certificate ready, as you will need it for processing.
Thanks!

Thanks for extending the extending the expiration date! It’s much appreciated. :)

There is an expiration date of 2/1/2010 in “The Fine Print” section but, the “Highlight” section states “Free admission to the museum for a year”. Is the date in “The Fine Print” section incorrect?
