A valuable resource in Chicago's transitioning Cabrini Green neighborhood, the Chicago Lights Urban Farm produced 1,000 pounds of food in 2010, empowering community residents and high-school youth with work training and nutritional education. Join G-Team and donate $10, $25, or $50 to help Chicago Lights Urban Farm expand with its Mobile Market Program, and you'll receive a credit equal to 10% of your donation for use toward fresh produce at the its farm stand, open Saturdays beginning June 18–October. Donors of $50 or more will also receive a copy of Urban Farm's cookbook.
Through its horticultural endeavors, Chicago Lights Urban Farm helps community members work toward increasing both economic opportunity and access to wholesome nutrition. To broaden the farm's reach, this year Chicago Lights is launching the Mobile Market Program through which a minimum of three teenage employees will travel throughout the Cabrini Green neighborhood and deliver farm produce and market baskets. Additionally, once a week teen employees will set up a mobile kiosk to provide nutritious-lunch options to individuals living and working in the neighborhood.
If G-Team members can raise $1,500, Chicago Lights can purchase three bicycles and carts for its budding program, with additional funds raised going toward equipment and safety gear for the riders. The Chicago Lights Urban Farm plans to purchase the needed bike carts and safety equipment from a local nonprofit organization that provides bike building and mechanics and educates youth on bike safety and healthful choices.
All donations will be matched up to $5,000 by an anonymous donor.
