In America, tequila's popularity skyrocketed after the release of its theme song and moonrocketed after the song’s accompanying dance. Channel your inner Pee-wee with this Groupon to Cien Agaves, located in Old Town Scottsdale. Choose from the following options:

  • For $12, you get a Passport to Tequila tasting for one (a $25 value).
  • For $22, you get a Passport to Tequila tasting for two (a $50 value).
  • For $40, you get a Passport to Tequila tasting for four (a $100 value).

Tastings usually run the last Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.; the next tasting will be April 26.

Cien Agaves curates a cultured, diverse selection of tequilas, which lend their spicy warmth to mixed drinks, including the Phoenix New Times's 2011 Best Specialty Margaritas, and a one-two punch of flavorful samples during the restaurant's 3.5-hour tequila-tasting extravaganza. Three featured companies deliver liquid tours of Mexican agave lands with full spreads of their succulently juiced products—typically a reposado, añejo, and blanco from each, with occasional specialty sips. Representatives from each company will be available to answer questions, and chips and salsa will be floating around to cleanse palates and mystify participants with their gravity defiance. Tasters can mingle among the tequila stations and will get 80-proof passports to keep track of their tequila escapades.

Cien Agaves

Cien Agaves curates a cultured and diverse selection of authentic Mexican specialties including 13 taco varieties and 100 pure agave tequilas. The bar staff carefully selects the handcrafted reposado, añejo, and blanco varieties, which lend their spicy warmth to mixed drinks that have garnered the Phoenix New Times's 2011 award for Best Specialty Margaritas. Citrus-marinated steak and beer-battered shrimp comprise a few of the tacos, available by the handful or platter.

The multileveled restaurant features catwalk seating in the upper level and an outdoor beer garden with stone fire pits that crackle along with the laughter of evening guests. During regularly scheduled tasting events, Cien Agaves features three specialty tequila artisans and welcomes guests to sample their craft. Representatives from each company are available at the events to answer questions and encourage responsible tasting.
