Questions and Answers

I would like to take lessons and try my project every or every other Saturday for years to come. I have never done before, but I would like to become very good at it. Hopefully, this pottery art becomes a good hobby of mine in the future. Please give me advice what to start with. Appreciate it. ~ Yoshi

Hello. I would start with the introductory pottery for one. If you like it you have the option of a monthly membership or a pottery punch card. The punch card allows you to come in within six months to use eight hours of open studio time versus the monthly membership entitles you for unlimited use within one month. Let me know if you have any other questions 343-9551

Hi, I have several questions: 1) What are the clays you sell - stoneware and porcelain? What type? What are the prices? 2) Do you have a list of stains and glazes that are available for purchase (to put on your pieces)? 3) What is the cost to bisque fire? 4) What is the cost to glaze fire? To what cone? 5) If I purchase the one-month studio use groupon when does it start? 6) What fairs do you exhibit at? Thanks!

I'm putting in a new order for supplies this week. We fire up to cone six and have many clays to choose from. We have porceline, stoneware, and terra cotta. Most range about $1.00-$1.50 per pound with the 25% membership discount. We have many different glazes we have duncan and mayco lines. We exhibit at the Make It Alaska Fair, the Lumen Christi Christmas Fair, the Holiday Food and Gift Festival, and the Forest Fair. The firing and glazing fees are assessed by what type of glaze you use and how they measure on our chart in the studio. We charge by the size of the finished peice and the membership takes 25% off of those fees. Normally its about $1.00 to fire for an average sized peice and about $6 for a regular glaze or $9 for a specailty glaze with the membership. Or you may purchase glaze by the bottle in the studio.

Does the $59 one month membership include instruction? Does the membership begin with the first visit or when you purchase the Groupon? Thank you.

Anne P. asked 8 months, 17 days, 13 hours, and 58 minutes ago - 1 answer

Autumn T.

The membership is for open studio time. We recommend that you have some experience when purchasing the membership. A staff member will be there to answer questions but instruction would only be included in a class. The membership starts upon your first visist. You will receive a membership card and you will get to use the equipment anytime during our business hours. You will also received 25% off the price of clay, firing, and glazing. If you have any further questions please call 343-9551.

This is perfect! I would love to purchase a class and a membership for my dad''s birthday.....if I bought both a class and a membership, could he redeem both? He took pottery is high and in college and this would be an excellent opportunity for him to get back into it.

Hannah asked 8 months, 16 days, 12 hours, and 39 minutes ago - 1 answer

Yes. We suggest you take the introductory class to get you started. The membership means free use of the equipment any time we are open for the month in which the memberhsip is redeemed. It also means you get 25% clay prices, firing fees, and glazing fees. When your dad comes in he will weigh his clay which is a $1.00 per pound and when he is done we will measure it on our chart to see how much glaze it will take. He will get 25% off those prices and any class we host during that month including wood carving, beading, sculpture, and hand built ceramics. He will also get a locker to store his own tools should he choose to purchase them and keep them at the studio. When he comes to redeem his groupon we will give him a membership card.

If four of us wanted to come together, could we book two hours back to back and all come in together?

scott p. asked 8 months, 17 days, 12 hours, and 32 minutes ago - 1 answer

Autumn T.

On the scheduler there is an option for a group of four people. If you could schedule the group of four and bring your two groupon vouchers with you that would be just fine. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Are there age guidelines for pottery students? (i.e., do you instruct children too?)

Linda P. asked 8 months, 17 days, 10 hours, and 26 minutes ago - 1 answer

Autumn T.

We require that children be twelve or above. This is not only for saftey reasons but it also is due to the fact that most children lack the upper arm strength. There are alternatives for children such as painted ceramic. We will also be establishing a hand built ceramics class, and our christmas ornament class in October.

Is a lesson or pottery class required before a monthly membership can be used?

Robin S. asked 8 months, 17 days, 23 hours, and 3 minutes ago - 1 answer

Autumn T.

No it is not required. Monthly memberships include open equipment use in the studio and discounts on firing and glazing fees. This is time for you to come in and make pottery independently. We will have staff there to help you but this generally does not include hours of instruction. We recommend that if you have not taken pottery before that you take an introductory lesson. If you have any further questions please feel free to call us at 343-9551.
