Is the discount good for food only, or are drinks included?

Can somebody please tell me how this works? I buy a coupon for $15 from groupon. Does that mean I take the coupon to them and then get $30 of food and only get charged for tax and tip? I don’t get it. Is it that the restaurant doesn’t charge me for the $30 of food I ordered?
In my experience, you print the ‘groupon’ and give it to the server when you are seated. You order $30 or more worth of food and the waitperson will deduct $30 from the total bill (less tax). I then tip on the total bill, and make up any difference (over $30) out of my pocket.

This evening I tried to use my groupon at colibri mexican bistro.
we ordered food and drinks.
The restaurant refused to honor the groupon, saying they only honor it for the food portion, not the drinks.
The original groupon discussion up above, asked about that issue.

As you know, the reason people don’’t join things like groupon is because of the potential embarrassment of being turned down at the restaurant.

The sea scallops in Colibri were amazing! My boyfriend and I went there for dinner and then crossed the street for the RENT musical. Perfect timing and perfect location. I got pretty buzzed from their minty mojitos. Thanks so much for making this wonderful groupon available!
I thought Colibri was good also. My partner and I had margaritas and their famous guacamole.
My problem is now I’m into Colibri for more than $50.00 for two margaritas and an order of guacamole.
The $15.00 I paid for the groupon which they refused to honor, plus the nearly $40.00 bill/tax/tip I had to cover with my credit card because they refused to honor the groupon.
What a rip!
Worse, despite three days of voice mails and emails to groupon, I have not been contacted.
Scary for a newish company getting so much favorable press.
My first groupon experience makes me kinda worried about all the other groupons I’ve already bought…will I have a similar embarrassing experience of being turned down when I try to use them at other restaurants?
Yeah! That has NOT at all been my experience with Groupon. All the ones I have bought have been honored.
Colibri’s staff must have goofed somewhere – this sort of mixup happens from time to time with restaurants (e.g. missing reservations)… so don’t let this little one discourage you from trying other groupons.
I used my Groupon for Colibri last week and they WERE a little put-off when I presented it, which I don’t understand…..didn’t they AGREE to this deal? At any rate, my husband and I did throughly enjoy our mojitos, guacamole and cervice very, very much (for half the price!). I used a Groupon at Philz Coffee and they were quite pleased about it, so it’s just depends on the particular business’s mindset I guess!

Was planning on using my Colibri Groupon next week, but the posts about them not honoring the Groupon or being snooty about it have me worried. Has everything been ironed out? I had problems with my House of Bagels Groupon being refused, but this would be much more embarrassing. Thanks!

Hi, I wanted to report that I used my Groupon last night at Colibri, and it went off without a hitch! The food was delicious and the service was great. Of course, we left an 18% tip on the pre-discount price.
