Professional local artists teach 15–30 students of all skill levels to splash landscapes, cityscapes, or abstract paintings across a canvas through step-by-step instruction. Classes are held at a variety of local restaurants, bars, and public venues, and all supplies are included. Some classes are BYOB, and during those that are not, discounted adult and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at the venue. Click here to check out Colors & Bottles's schedule, which includes each class's location, painting theme, and whether or not the class is BYOB or top-hat optional.

Colors & Bottles

Colors & Bottles' founder Jessica Burley and her band of talented local artists are dedicated to supporting local emerging talent and businesses through art instruction held at nearby venues. Their resident artists travel to local eateries and art galleries, where they teach students of all skill levels to fashion dimensional masterpieces through step-by-step instruction. They also kindle creativity during private parties held at the location of your choice, asking only that the destination be outfitted with enough tables, chairs, and paint-by-numbers templates of the Sistine Chapel ceiling for all invitees. Colors & Bottles has received a nod for their engagingly creative events on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and within the pages of the Columbus Dispatch.

The Groupon Guide to: Barrels of Animals

History’s greatest poets and philosophers have all relied on one infallible metric in the construction of their most enduring metaphors—comparing things to barrels of different animals. Penetrate their heady linguistic flourishes with this clear-cut guide to animal-barrel metaphors.

  • Barrel of: Monkeys
  • Symbolizes: Imminent, inescapable fun
  • Use it in a sentence: “The new hit movie Scream 4 is more fun—and scarier—than a barrel of monkeys!”

  • Barrel of: Fish

  • Symbolizes: How easy it would be to accomplish a given task, in comparison to cornering fish in an enclosed space and hunting them with a gun
  • Use it in a sentence: “Chucking shurikens into this oil drum full of lobsters will be slightly harder than shooting fish in a barrel!”

  • Barrel of: One man

  • Symbolizes: A whimsical look at Depression-era poverty
  • Use it in a sentence: “There’s nothing metaphorical about the crisis of poverty.”

What is literally as fun as a barrel of monkeys?
