During treatment different wavelengths of light target specific colors in the ink, creating heat and pressure that ultimately allows for ink pockets to break down and be absorbed by the skin. Treatments can include some tolerable discomfort and have no downtime. Significant fading occurs beginning with the fourth treatment, and most tattoos require an average of six treatments. Each session lasts approximately 45–60 minutes.
