Diners enjoy an eclectic menu of Indian and Mexican eats, such as pappadam nachos topped with cheese and masala sauce ($10), lamb tikka masala burritos with spanish rice and mint chutney ($14), and mixed-vegetable pizzas with olives, mushrooms, and bell peppers on a tandoori naan flatbread ($11).

Cowboys and Turbans

Baba Ji, the proprietor of Silverlake Juice and Tea and former chef at Indian restaurants Electric Lotus and Electric Karma, explores a new frontier in fusion with the food at Cowboys and Turbans⎯the tantalizing blend of South Asian, American, and Mexican cuisine. The menu unites antipodal parts of the globe with hearty samosas wrapped in flour tortillas instead of samosa dough, tacos filled with tandoori meats and chutneys, and pizzas made with a chewy tandoori naan crust. Towering doors of wood and iron lined with intricately carved columns reveal an open-air patio, which surrounds visitors with flickering torchlight and a canopy of multicolored cloth. Statues of animals and deities ring the courtyard, patiently waiting to ask if diners are going to finish their masala burgers, tandoori cornish hens, and aromatic vegetarian and seafood curries.

Silver Lake Juice Bar

When Chef Baba Ji found out that he had diabetes, he literally and figuratively turned lemons into lemonade. Using his diagnosis as an opportunity to change his life, Baba Ji began to practice juicing, which helped him lose more than 50 pounds and regain control of his health. Eager to share his journey and experience with others, he opened Silverlake Juice and Tea, now named Silver Lake Juice Bar, a 100% organic shop that sells juices, smoothies, and teas made from local produce. His J-Bieb organic juice blends orange, apple, kale, carrot, and ginger into a smooth concoction ready to infuse bodies with green-powered nutrients. Smoothies come in various signature flavors such as the Happy Hippie, a blend of bananas, raisins, almonds, Woodstock tickets, pumpkin seeds, hemp milk, and honey served with the shop's signature 100% biodegradable products. An outdoor patio allows patrons to enjoy their treats in the sun while surrounded by lush vegetation or space heaters in cooler months.

  • Mexican mixed with Indian food is a great idea. The tacos are my favorite. They're like small morsels of goodness.
