According to a study of Chicago public-school freshmen, for every five school days students miss per semester, they are up to 20% less likely to graduate in four years. However, students who show up to school prepared for the work ahead on the first day are more likely to maintain a better attendance record throughout the year and achieve academic success. Chicago Public Schools (CPS), which educates more than 400,000 students every year, is making an effort to equip students for the first day of school to help improve attendance and thereby enhance kids' academic performance.
Using easily distributable supply packs from Kits for Kidz, CPS can provide essential school supplies for low-income children. CPS plans to distribute the packs at back-to-school festivals, where families can become aware of and excited for the two new start-of-school dates on August 8 for Track E students and on September 6 for Regular Track. Kits come equipped with 30 items from brands such as Staples, Acme, Georgia Pacific, and Dixon. Age-specific supplies range from crayons and glue sticks for primary and elementary students to calculators and dictionaries for those in junior high. Each kit's corrugated cardboard box and plastic handle can also double as a carrying case throughout the year.
Join G-Team and donate $12 to provide school supplies for children in need. If G-Team members raise $600, 50 Chicago Public School children will receive their own Kits for Kidz school supply kit with 30 supplies for the year. Each additional $12 raised will fund a school supply kit for a CPS student. Any funds raised beyond $10,000 will be used to purchase additional school supplies from Office Depot.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
