Hey everyone! The Chicago Public Schools Back to School campaign is extremely excited for this opportunity to engage the community in helping to get our students back to school on the FIRST DAY! Thanks for all of your support…

This Chicago Public School teacher and loyal Grouponer says Thank You! to everyone for their support! These kids need all the support they can get. We do our best but we appreciate public support anytime we can get it.

is the organization itself getting the full $12, has Groupon waived their 50% marketing fee?

Jessica F.

It says on the front page that "100% of donations go directly to Chicago Public Schools. " That better mean that CPS is getting the full $12!

Rachel L.

I wish this were more visible on the Groupon site — I only found out about it through a GOOD article, and then I had to search for the link to the actual deal!

Kyle K.

Hello All,

Yes, 100% of all donation will go to CPS for the Kits for Kitz. Groupon will even be paying for the credit card handling fee.

I assume we can buy more than one? =)

Can I purchase qty of 5 or do i have buy them as gifts?

Jim C.

I don’t get it? What is Groupon giving?

this should have been a featured deal to make it easier for people to know that its there, if u didnt see it on the news then how else would you know?

Jim C.

why isn’t Groupon matching each donation?

Jennifer R.

For every $12 spent, Groupon will give a Chicago Public School student a kit, filled with brand new school supplies (notebooks, colored pencils, markers, glue sticks, etc). So many of these kids cannot afford to go to Target or Wal-Mart and pick out school supplies for the coming year like so many of us were able to do when we were young. Buying one (or several!) of these kits can make sure a difference for some many CPS kids!!

Just so you know, there was a fund raiser similar ti=o this no long ago & Groupon took their 50% cut.

At least now that they went public – they have a conscience.& are doing the right thing.

I’m confused…I bought 5 off these, does the $60 automatically go to purchase the Kitz of Kidz or do I need to “redeem” the Groupon somehow? It says “redeem online” but there is no active link?

Kyle K.

Hello Sam P.,

Your donation will automatically go to CPS for the Kits for Kidz. No need to redeem your Groupon.

Thank you for being part of this G-Team campaign!

@John C & @John N – Groupon does not take a cut on any G-Team fundraising campaign and never has. All donations go automatically and directly to the featured organization.

I am glad G team is doing something because the parents sure as hell aren’t. Maybe G team should start a campaign where people donate money to pay the parents of these underachieving kids to make them give a damn about their kids. It starts in the home, not in the classroom!

Kyle K

Wasn’t there a (believe it was) Salvation Army Groupon where Groupon collected its full cut? At the time the reason given was that the organization put up the ad directly as regular merchants do, but you never offered to rebate the money.

1. What part of the $12 does KitzforKidz take as an administrative fee?
2. What about all of the school supplies we saw dumped in a recent TV expose? There were enough supplies there to supply at least 100 kids if not more. I’m not tempted to donate money when there is so much waste.

Kyle K.

Hello John N.,

Groupon never takes a cut on G-Team campaigns and this will always be noted in the Fine Print section. If a non-profit organization chooses to run a regular deal, then Groupon could take a cut as is the case with the museums and theaters we feature.

Pamela F.

I went to the Kitz for Kidz website and you can purchase various kits directly through them. The “box” type (like Groupon is offering) is only $11. You can order another type that comes with a backpack for $18. Why is the Groupon kit $12?

Kye T.

Hi Pamela!

Thanks for your inquiry about the $11 vs. the $12 price for the Kits for Kidz. Schoolkidz, Inc. (the supplier of the Kits for Kidz) has agreed to offer us a discounted rate of $11 for our kits due to the large number that we will be ordering (thanks to all of your support!). This rate was given to us after the agreement and contract with Groupon had been signed. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to change the contract by the launch-date.

The good news is this: we will now utilize these $12 donations to purchase even MORE kits – at the $11 price! Again, let us reiterate that 100% of the funds we raise during this campaign will go to purchasing school supplies for CPS students!

Thanks again for all of your support!

Hi Shobhna T.

Your edited post appears below. You would be donating the supplies to children that attend Chicago Public Schools.
