CrossFit trainers draw from a virtual encyclopedia of exercises, though CrossFit FX TX’s owner Dylan Gautreaux might have a few more than his average colleague. Throughout his career, he has acquired 13 fitness-instruction certifications, which he calls upon to demonstrate a variety of exercises that can cater to students of all walks of life. His business partner and wife, Melissa Gautreaux, teaches classes at the facility as well, and the couple has recruited a crew of four other trainers to maintain a six-day schedule, which can range from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Each trainer brings his or her own background and specialties to the table, but they all focus on the CrossFit model’s dedication to functional movement. In doing so, they prepare bodies to excel at all the tasks they were evolutionarily meant to perform, whether it’s running, crawling, climbing, or having better hair than Neanderthals.
