About Dan & Lainey

With their vintage style and gleaming smiles, Dan Newsome and Lainey Silver look the part of the consummate 1950s swing-dancing duo. They also look like the couple that nobody would want to compete against in a dance contest—they've been awarded dozens of titles over the past decade. But instead of hoarding their hoofing knowledge in an impenetrable plastic sleeve, they freely share it with aspiring dancers during engaging classes and workshops. In lessons for first-time and returning students, Newsome and Silver spread the joys of social dancing while introducing steps in styles such as the Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Charleston. They're even experts in tap dancing and slow blues dancing, and can prepare newlyweds for a swinging wedding dance. As for what drives the pair, it's simple—they're not just lovers of classic dance, they're preservationists with a passion for keeping the moves of the 1920–1950s alive.
