Trips set sail on waters right outside Dana Point Harbor in search of seasonal fish such as sculpin, sand bass, halibut, rockfish, and calico bass. The ship's crew and skippers are on hand as expert guides for guests of all ability levels. Though the trips focus on fishing, boats occasionally sail within sight of whales, fire-breathing sea beasts, dolphins, and other creatures.

All buyers must bring a rod, reel, and tackle or rent them from Dana Wharf Sportfishing for an additional $14, which is not included in this Groupon. If you do not have a fishing license, you must also purchase a day license for $14.04. Click here to purchase the license in advance from the California Department of Fish and Game.

For current conditions, Dana Wharf Sportfishing recommends that fishers bring a 10- to 20-pound test line and a mix of hook sizes including 1, 2, 1/0, and 2/0, as well as a mix of 1/8-ounce to 6-ounce weights. The crew keeps abreast of the California Department of Fish and Game's size and possession limits for fish to ensure everyone knows how many fish they can keep if they choose—though the crew also promotes catch-and-release to conserve natural resources. If guests choose to keep their catches, the crew will help put them in the guests’ sacks. After the trip, Dana Wharf Sportfishing can have them cleaned for about $0.50–$1 per fish, cash only.

Dana Wharf Whale Watching

Dana Wharf Whale Watching's expert crews and skippers glide their watercrafts on the open seas so visitors can soak up sunshine while searching for rare and endangered whales as they migrate south to avoid tax season. Expert captains steer crafts through frothy spumes and narrate each trip, educating passengers on the abundant life beneath the glassy waters. Voyagers can either venture into the boat's full-service galley for a hot meal or bring their own food and nonalcoholic drinks to stave off hunger and resist eating the ocean's jagged, hamburger-shaped coral.

The Groupon Guide to: Home-Improvements Projects

Doing their own home-improvement projects can be a big source of pride for a homeowner, giving them something to show off to guests and cable television shows where they interview people about their houses. Here are some projects you can work on at your house:

  • Use a sledgehammer to demolish your deck so your dog will stop falling off the edge of it.

  • Pour concrete over your whole backyard to make it a better place to roller-skate.

  • Install a sink right in front of your toilet so you can use the bathroom and wash your hands at the same time.

  • Take rough, unpolished logs from a nearby forest and use them to make a cool-looking uneven floor for your bedroom.

  • Paint all of the doors in your house green so people know you’re fun.

What’s behind this funky door? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
