From now through September 1—weather and water conditions permitting—Groupon holders follow along as a guide teaches standup paddleboarding basics and water-safety skills before turning paddlers loose on the waterway. Evening cruises gain a romantic edge over their diurnal counterparts as the sun’s dip towards the horizon coincides with the bullfrog jazz band’s rehearsals. On weekends, daytime tours run from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and evening tours run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; later in the season, tours will run at similar times. All gear is provided

Local Paddler

After listening to professional instruction from Local Paddler’s guides, total novices can paddle their standup paddleboards through the crystalline waters of North Carolina’s lakes and rivers. Instructors teach newbies to stand upright on their boards, showcase J-strokes, sweep strokes, and other fundamentals, and also impart water-safety lessons, such as never drink the entire lake in one sitting. Local Paddler's shop furnishes all equipment for aquatic adventures, which unfold along the scenic shorelines of Lake Norman, Lake Wylie, Mountain Island Lake, or the Catawba River.
