$69 for Murder-Mystery Show for Two ($129 Total Value)

The evening includes the following:

  • Two tickets (a $119 value)
  • Two keepsake mystery magnets (a $10 value)

While the show goes on, couples will dig into a four-course meal, complete with a garden salad, soup of the day, and an entree, such as chicken cordon blue, beer-braised barbecue short rib, or a grilled-vegetable platter. Mystery Cafe Dinner Theater’s current show is Crime Pays, which follows a mob-imbedded family in Las Vegas who run a popular radio show as well as dubious exploits on the side. The players interact with the audience throughout the evening, encouraging them to spin a game-show wheel while attempting to solve the rib-tickling mystery.

A new show will begin around January or February 2013. Shows run Friday and Saturday nights at the Imperial House at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Customers select their entree when they make their reservation. This Groupon is not valid for performances in the month of December.

Mystery Cafe Dinner Theater

As San Diego’s oldest interactive mystery-comedy dinner theater, Mystery Cafe Dinner Theater dazzles audiences with live comedic mystery performances. Each show boasts an interactive format in which actors engage with the audience, possibly involving them in plotlines or goading them into shouting “scallywag!” in an old-timey accent.

The Groupon Guide to: Famous Hats

Every historical figure of any significance wore a now instantly recognizable hat, synonymous with their name:

  • The Napoleon Hat: Military bicorn, worn side to side or "athwart" to serve as a better perch for enlisted falcons
  • The Benjamin Franklin Hat: Small brass beanie with a large conductive spire jutting out of it, topped with a small eyelet for tethering a kite
  • The Davy Crockett Hat: Famously a strict vegetarian, Crockett's "coonskin" was actually just a matted blob of reeds and buffalo chips that he moistened hourly from his canteen
  • The Hercules Hat: Just a minotaur skull

Honorable Mention: Jughead's "hat" from the Archie comics is actually a crown (?) made of gray paper (?) with miscellaneous shapes affixed to it. Details remain vague because it is proven that overscrutinizing Jughead's hat makes you go insane.

Which historical figure had the most famous hat? The answer may surprise you.
