Sailors learn to be experts at knot tying, from securing the vessel with a tight anchor hitch to securing the captain after he succumbs to madness and tries to eat his own hook hand. Experience a mutinous bounty with this Groupon.

Choose Between Two Options

  • $15 for a Happy Hour on the Harbor Cruise or a DC Harbor Lights Cruise (a $30 value)
  • $27 for two tickets to one of the above harbor cruises (a $60 value)

The 90-minute happy-hour tour lets passengers roam the boat's outer and inner decks to take in the sights as barkeeps deal cocktails from a cash bar. Also 90-minutes, the Harbor-Lights cruise eases past the Lincoln Memorial and other landmarks just as they are illuminated to mark nightfall. Departure times are listed on the DC Harbor Cruises website, and vary depending on the cruise and boarding location. Cruises depart from Georgetown's Washington Harbour on Fridays and the Gangplank Marina on Saturdays.

DC Harbor Cruises

Departing from Gangplank Marina and Washington Harbour, a boat skipper begins another journey down the calm, flat waters of the Potomac River. The multi-decked boats—the Patriot II catamaran that can accommodate 149 passengers, and the Harbour Belle, which can ferry up to 107—power DC Harbor Cruises’s daily tours of the capital's famous waterway. The tour crafts are furnished with bars, snacks, full audio systems, and plush seating for sightseers to enjoy as they drift along the Potomac's smooth waters and collect eyefuls of national treasures. Guests can admire the imposing Capitol Building and whisper about how silly the Washington Monument looks without its powdered wig. The Coast Guard–certified staff points out other notable visuals such as the National Cathedral’s stately towers, the Pentagon, and Fort McNair.

Reviews

  • Pretty cool to see the DC Metro from the water on a nice breezy, late summer night. As well, as learning about the area's history.
    Rahsaan C., Yelp, 5/23/11
  • I would recommend this as a good activity for visitors, groups and I think it would even be a really decent date
