Great question! The course text documents and videos for the EwB App Design course can be followed using free software that most computers will have had installed during the course of everyday internet usage. If this free software is not installed then our step by step guides to installation in our help section will easily address this. Any other software required throughout the course is free and the relevant links are given. The means to try apps on a phone/tablet (either with Androis or iOS operating systems) will be useful for some of the practice exercises.

I see in the Course Syllabus that this course teaches you ho to design, and hire a programer? I want to be able to build my own without working with a separate programer, is this possible using Excel with Business? Or is this essentially a course on how to create a team to make the app and market it?

Yes it is possible to design and develop your own app after completing this course. Module 10 is all about programming in iOS and Android. It gives you a step-by-step guide on how to set up both environments and how to start developing.

Will students of this course use the new iPad 4 to create iOS and/or android apps? The new iPad 4 is equipped with the new super A6 processor. Do we absolutely need a mac computer to create both iOS and android apps? Can students use ONLY a MacBook Pro with retina display laptop to create both iOS and android apps and also successfully complete this course? I apologize, one last question. You will need a Mac to develop for iOS. To develop apps for Android you can use either a PC or a Mac.

There is a small subscription fee to pay to become an official developer for either platform, and also a revenue cut. In our experience, this is a pretty good deal, since you get most of your sales and paperwork taken care of automatically by Apple or Google.
