Most classes, including Dharma gentle and Dharma levels I–V, run 90 minutes and are available to all levels of students. Developed by world-renowned yoga instructor Sri Dharma Mittra, who boasts 50-plus years of experience, the classes teach Dharma yoga, which emphasizes the connection between movement and breath. With the aid of Dharma Mittra’s teachings, students seek to obtain a meditative state, channeling energy through the spine and into their bodies physically, metabolically, and intuitively.

Dharma Yoga

Sri Dharma Mittra began his yoga journey in the 1950s. He studied the classical eight limbs yoga and karma yoga under Sri Swami Kailashananda, who is credited for introducing Hatha yoga to the western world. Now in his 70s, Sri Dharma Mittra shares his wisdom with others during a few public lessons each week, including Deep Healing and Relaxation Method held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Dharma Yoga's sessions are held seven days a week in a new 7,500-square-foot Flatiron studio awash in lush gold tones. At the beginning of class, the instructor sits upon a small dais bathed in natural light as students line up their mats on either carpeted or wood floors, depending on preference. Sri Dharma Mittra’s more than 13 practices and workshops focus on strength- and flexibility-enhancing postures, connected with breathing and improving relaxation and mental focus through meditation and philosophy. His kindness, sense of humor, and joy for life are infused into each lesson as he reiterates that "without the Yamas, known as the ethical rules, there is no success in yoga." Dharma Yoga also holds highly regarded training and certificate programs for those wishing to share the art with others or replace their framed photos of pet sea monkeys.

The Groupon Guide to: Staying Positive

One of the keys to success is maintaining a positive mental attitude despite adversity and cruel insults from your digital pet. Here are some tips for staying mentally afloat:

Focus on the Good Things: When you start to feel down, think about your car, your fans, and the future success of your prison-themed women’s-clothing line.

Regret Nothing: Some people spend their whole lives wishing they’d asked out that one person from high school or not cracked open that orb the shaman gave them and drank its fragrant juices, but there’s no use focusing on the “shoulda, woulda, couldas.”

Be Proud to Be You: You can’t be proud of who you are unless your parents finally tell you who you are. Ask them if you’re finally old enough to see the uncensored version of your birth certificate.

Are women’s prison jumpsuits the next big trend?
