Composition in the Field workshops don’t just introduce students to the technical aspects of their cameras, such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and other settings—they focus on changing the way these budding photographers see the world from behind the lens. After an instruction on camera controls, students take to the field at an indoor or outdoor locale, accompanied by a professional photographer who teaches techniques and tips for capturing powerful images. He or she teaches students how to manipulate natural light and how to use shutter speed to make it seem as though subjects are a whirlwind of motion.

Upcoming photo ops include capturing the blooming flowers and vegetation of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden in winter, immortalizing the street art and trendy passersby in Deep Ellum, and seeking snapshots amid the hustle and bustle of the historic Dallas farmers’ market.
