The menu features housemade gnocchi tossed with butter-sage sauce ($16.95), flounder filled with lobster, shrimp, and crab in a creamy cognac sauce ($17.95), and pan-seared veal topped with prosciutto ($18.95).

So time intensive is their recipe for authentic italian gnocchi that the chefs at Dolce Ristorante only prepare the specialty once a week. On Tuesdays, chefs roll out the tender dumpling dough and toss it with coatings such as butter-sage sauce, bolognese meat sauce, fresh tomato sauce, four-cheese sauce, or pesto sauce. Even if diners can’t drop in on Tuesdays or send their homing pigeons for takeout, they can still sample Italian cuisine hailed by Creative Loafing Charlotte as the city’s best of 2012. Chefs roll out a half dozen other pasta dishes, such as cannelloni stuffed with ricotta and mascarpone, and sauté tilapia with pinot grigio and sweet red peppers. For dessert, chefs dole out scoops of housemade gelato and other housemade Italian sweets.
