Choose from Three Options

The two-day Wilderness Survival Weekend class delves into basic survival skills, including fire by friction, basic shelter building, trapping small game, and determining which plants are edible or medicinal. The instructor will also touch on purifying and collecting water and teach identification of local edible and medicinal plants. At the end of the course, you’ll be able to navigate the countryside using the stars and build a rope from local plants.

Students learn to conceal themselves in the wilderness using mud, foliage, and other natural materials. The class covers primitive and modern-day camouflage techniques, along with good locations and strategies for concealment.

  • $35 for an Edible Plants class on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (a $75 value)

This class explores the many plants found in the area that can not only be consumed but also often provide better nutrition than their counterparts in the grocery store. Instructors offer tips on finding common edible plants and how to harvest and prepare them.

Earth Native Wilderness School

In a time when most people find out about survival skills through reality television, Dave Scott is the exception. The founder and president of Earth Native Wilderness School spent his formative years exploring the Texas wilderness. As a US Army veteran, he is 1 of only 20 people in North America qualified as a Track and Sign Specialist. He has devoted himself to helping society remember the skills that have kept us alive for thousands of years.

Earth Native Wilderness School's instructors come from all walks of life, but they each have a love of nature. With lessons in medicinal plants, basic wilderness survival, and wildlife tracking, the school's classes teach students skills such as fashioning tools for survival, arrow making, fire by friction, and finding an ATM in the desert. The staff also realizes humanity's spiritual connection to nature and can even guide students through a vision quest to strengthen their relationship with nature.
