Why does the hotel have no clue what i’m talking about? Is there a confirmation number we give them?
Are you able to have a family of 4 with this or must you pay additional? (can you substitute a king with 2 doubles?)
Just spoke with the hotel, you can only book online and you can only use the coupon for the King Exterior Room which is completly sold out for the following week. The King Exterior Room on the website is not worth $317 per the website. It’s more like $200. This is not a very good deal.
How do you book online though, is there a number you enter?
You enter the number on your groupon in the promotion field online. Check and make sure that the rooms you want are available. There don’t seem to be that many of them.
Oh okay, my order is still processing. I called the hotel and the lady had no idea what i was talking about.
She didn’t know when I called too. They go through a central reservation system and the groupon does not have all the specific details of the deal, like the fact that you can only use it for one specific deal. That’s kind of important don’t you think.
Yeah i just canceled it, because i don’t feel like buying it just to find out i can’t even use it on the only dates i have available.
Further to Maria M.’s comment, if you pay in advance (like required for a Groupon), the price goes down to $168. I think the offer was pretty disingenuous of the hotel and I hope Groupon is more selective in not allowing this kind of thinly veiled marketing attempt that really gives no value to its members.
Can we get some clarification from someone at Groupon on what room this actually applies for? There are multiple “King” rooms listed on the Fairmont site and it would be nice to know which one this applies to. King tower, int/ext OR King main, int/ext… The prices vary and if what others say is true the deal savings is misleading.
Everyone booking through Groupon will receive a confirmation number.
The hotel is not monitoring your questions, so feel free to reach out on this discussion board instead of calling the hotel.
For reservations for a large group, such as a family of 4, we can provide you with a Roll-away bed at an additional cost. Any requests for a higher room category must be coordinated with the hotel directly after you recieve your confirmation number.
You can book online through the Groupon site.

I just booked my own reservation seperately from groupon, too much hassle.
To clarify for the room category, the King bedded room is in our historic main building, with exterior views.
Let us clarify that the discount through Groupon is also tax inclusive, which at 15.5 percent is a significant added value.
Any rates found online directly at the hotels website will not include the tax. Making the Groupon offer very valid.
To clarify, the hotel is monitoring all questions.

Yes, you can use it on April 30th.
I don’t live in San Francisco but am visiting the weekend of Mar. 12. Is there a way to see if the evening of Mar. 13 is available before purchasing the groupon? Since I won’t be visiting again until 2011, I do not want to purchase if I cannot use it on that specific date.

FYI, I just checked the rate for 3/12 (a Friday night) and got $259 for the room this Groupon applies to. Plus the 15.5% fascist sales tax, that’s $300. So I say the deal’s a deal, for reals. Dunno what Maria M. is looking at.
I’m worried the Fairmont might run out of rooms for Valentine’s day if we have to wait until Monday to book the rooms. Can we book rooms now and apply the promo code later?

Renata, both the Farimont and Groupon reps have already said that you can’t book a room using your groupon until Monday…
Unfortunately you cannot use your promo codes until Monday. We understand your concern for availability of rooms on certain dates, like Valentine’s Day. The offer is based on a first come, first booked based on availability.
Please do not make any “placeholder bookings” to reserve your rooms. There is no ability to change the rates after you’ve already made a reservation. If you have made a “place-holder” booking, you will have to cancel your reservation and use the promo code after Monday.

As of now we are most certainly showing availability for 2/15 and I’m confident you’ll be able to use your Groupon to book for this night on Monday. It is based on availability, but as of now, it’s looking good.
I am confused about the procedure also. I read above that we cannot book the room until Monday but how will we do it? I did not receive any kind of notification about my order being final. Hopefully, I can clarify for you both. As the Groupon offer is live until Sunday night, they will not send out the confirmation and booking instructions until Monday. At that point, you will receive a special link that will connect you to book your Groupon on Fairmont.com and include the special Groupon ID# that is given to you.
So, yes, you will book online, but no bookings can be made until the deal closes and Groupon sends you the info. Keep an eye on your inbox on Monday and then follow the link.

You can certainly purchase two Groupons and give one away as a gift! Each Groupon will have its own special Groupon ID# to book, so they can be booked separately and used on separate nights, too! It’s a great gift, as you can pass along the special link and ID# when you get it from Groupon on Monday, and your lucky gift recipient can find the night that works best for them to be treated like royalty :-)

What’s the availability look like so far for Sat, Feb 13th? I’m worried I might not be able to book a room online on Monday morning in time since it’s first-come, first-serve, and judging by how many people who have bought this Groupon that might want to use it for Valentine’s day also…How many king rooms are available for Groupon bookings?
I received my link and code and it says available 1/30 at 12 am. It still does not work. It says to enter the code in the “special requests” field, but there is not one….

Just wanted to clarify again, you may not book your room until Monday 2/1 (even though the Groupon says it’s available 1/30 at 12am. On Monday, please go to the website found on your Groupon, book the room you want, and enter your Groupon serial number in the “Special Comments” section. That will assure you that you’re booked properly and get the correct rate.

Thanks for clarifying Erica. I have just a couple of more questions. You said, book the room you want. Do you mean book a King Exterior room? You mentioned the Special Comments section – the groupon says “Special Request.” So, is this field at the beginning or the end of making your reservation?
Are we going to have to book the room with our credit card at the regular rate and then show the groupon when we arrive? Or will the code entered only bring up rooms we are allowed to book?

Hi Jen,
The Groupon serial number will be sent to you once you purchase and no later than 2/1.
Rhonda — the Special Request field is towards the end of making your reservation. You will see it at the bottom of the reservations page after you select your dates.
All you will need to do is include your unique Groupon ID# when you book and then no need to bring the Groupon with you. As it is already paid, a credit card is only required for incidentals. No additional payment is taken; it will simply show you what you have already paid Groupon (the $158 tax inclusive).
You can only book the Fairmont Exterior Room (King) but then if you wish to have a rollaway bed or a higher-category room (i.e. 2 beds), you can call the hotel once you have your confirmation number and see about these special requests and associated upgrade costs.

A Groupon ID# can only be used once, as each is unique. However, you can gift it to someone else for use — they just need to use that unique Groupon ID# once booking. Should you need to change your dates after you book, you can call the hotel and see if they can accommodate the change. Keep in mind, however, that the Groupon does expire on April 30th.

Absolutely! The credit card is just for incidental charges and can be swapped out at check-in or after the reservation is made by rerfencing the confirmation number and simply asking to make the change – they can call our Reservations at 1-800-441-1414.
As for booking, you should be set as of tomorrow.

I made a reservation yesterday and entered the code into the Special Requests field, as I thought that was the instruction. I left a voicemail for somebody asking if i actually got the deal. I was attempting to make one night res for a king room for the night of the 13th. Could i clarify if we will end up getting the discount or do i need to cancel and do this again via phone or something?

Heather – they said you cannot use the Groupon until Monday, so I would cancel if you reserved one already, the coupon won’t work till Monday.
Where did it say this about monday? i got my coupon yesterday (or maybe friday night) and it says nothing about when I could buy it, it just gave direcitons for how to do it on the Fairmont site!

OK, so it’s now after midnight on Monday, 2/1, and I’ve been trying to make my reservation following the instructions on the Groupon I received via email. Just a few comments up, Fairmont S. says, “You’ll be able to tell that you have made the appropriate reservation as it will show you on Fairmont.com with the link the one room type at the $158 special rate and it will say Groupon in the description.” Well, that isn’t happening, and I’m feeling frustrated. Are there other super-secret instructions to follow?

i’ve tried reserving twice and both times i included my groupon # in the special requests field and both time it came up as being reserved but with the 309 rate. Am i all set? When i check in, will it be changed to the groupon rate? this is so frustrating!
Jennifer S., the rate is now active as I have completed my booking. Be sure to use the link provided to by Groupon on your coupon. The link is how you will get the correct rate. In a prior post, I believe the Fairmont S. stated that putting your Groupon ID # in the special requests field was only for additional verification; it is NOT how you will see the special rate.
I tried making the reservation at 8am, pretty much on the dot. but it didn’t work until about 5 or so minutes in (in case some of you tried and it didn’t work at 8). it’s now working great and i got the original date I wanted. hooray for a date night, and grandmothers who will come stay with the munchkin!

GroupOn should have sent you a confimation email with a four letter promo code. Your groupon ID will not work on the Fairmont.com website. Please contact Groupon if you have not received the code.
If you open your print out by going to the mygroupons under the mystuff tab, the website needed to book is located there.

To clarify, you should receive a URL address from Groupon, which should in turn take you to Fairmont.com and pre-populate a 4-letter promo code. This will bring up the Groupon special rate that you’ve pre-paid and then in the Special Request field at the end of your reservation making, you must ensure you type in the unique Groupon ID# that was provided.

Do not use your Groupon ID. The link Groupon sent you should automatically populate a four letter promotion code on the Fairmont website. The only thing you’ll need to update is the dates your are requesting.

The Groupon is not available on 2/27, per the fine print, which is why the reservation didn’t pull up the Groupon rate.
I noticed you went ahead and cancelled the other reservation that you made. Did you want to book for another date? If so, you should have no trouble.

Caitlin, if you signed up for/bought the groupon, you should be able to login and go to “My Stuff” (over on the right of the navigation) – then you should see this groupon. hit ‘print’ which should download a pdf to your computer. Open the pdf and within the pdf there will be a link to click. your groupon # for this particular item will also be within that pdf.

Hello all, I found out that on the coupon itself there is a web site specific to this booking (check the pdf coupon file and it is under the coupon). click on that site to go to the special rate site in order to get the rate!

I followed the link on the groupon (click print, directions are at the bottom). The 4 letter promo code is already inputted, it only gives you rooms you are eligible for, and all you have to do is put your code in the “special requests” box, like it tells you. Super easy, just got a room for Valentine’s Day!
