Families are the fastest-growing homeless group, including more than 1.5 million children. Homeless parents often lack access to training and resources necessary to help them further their careers while supporting youngsters. Family Gateway combats the cycle of generational homelessness by providing counseling, education, employment opportunities, and housing assistance for homeless adults with children, efforts that have helped more than 4,300 families and 8,300 kids.
The Gateway to Jobs program assists homeless moms and dads supporting children by matching them with experienced vocational counselors who assess participants' job skills, prep them for interviews with potential employers, and help sharpen workplace expertise. Working in conjunction with several Dallas-area employers, counselors also provide job-search and placement assistance to applicants looking for permanent employment.
