NRA instructors lead an eight-hour concealed-carry class that fulfills the state's requirements for classroom time, range qualification, and testing. Instructors supply all classroom materials (range fees may be extra). Three to four weeks after the course, participants receive a certificate in the mail and take it to the county sheriff's office, which may accept their application and issue a concealed-deadly-weapon license in approximately three to four weeks.
The firearm-skills and range-training class builds on this foundation. Instructors teach students to draw from their side holster, maintain the proper mindset, and fine-tune their targeting skills. Participants in this course must supply their own pistol, two extra magazines, a fitted holster, a brimmed hat, a gun-maintenance kit, and ear and eye protection. Gear, in a limited supply, is available for rent for additional fees (not included with this Groupon). They must also hold a state-issued concealed-deadly-weapon license, have completed an NRA basic pistol course, or qualify the day of the class.
For a minimum of eight students, one of Firearm Safety and Security Training LLC.'s instructors will travel to a home, business, community center, or other location and teach a class onsite. The chosen location must have electricity and a bathroom.
Firearm Safety and Security Training LLC.
Firearm Safety and Security Training LLC.'s lead instructor, Joshua McFadden, holds multiple NRA certifications and has more than 20 years of shooting experience. He combines his expertise with NRA instructional materials to teach beginners the fundamentals of firearms ownership in both private and group classes, such as the NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation. During this course, Mr. McFadden or one of his fellow instructors covers the NRA's rules for safe gun handling before teaching participants to shoot at the range. For those who are a bit more advanced, the business runs NRA basic classes—including a shotgun-shooting course—and helps gun owners fulfill the requirements for Kentucky CCDW licenses. Firearm Safety and Security Training LLC. also offers woman-focused training, with an emphasis on self-protection and defense.
