Prior to each treatment, a 10-minute orientation elucidates the history and safety of floatation tanks and answers any questions. The client showers before entering the chamber, where 10.5 inches of ultrasaturated Epsom salt water float the body in complete darkness. The chamber is 8.5’x4’ to ensure a comfortable, cramp-free experience, and a constant temperature of 93.5 degrees keeps the body cozy and combines with the water to convince the mind that it’s floating in air. After the float, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and moisturizer await the salty client. Robes, shoes, and disposable earplugs are provided for each client, and when guests exit into the gallery, the staff greets rejuvenated bodies with water and hot tea. FLOAT Floatation Center & Art Gallery

Though FLOAT’s neon sign is small and easy to miss in the window of a converted historic cotton mill, its interior is anything but unremarkable. The artist-owned urban art spa stimulates the mind with work from established and rising local artists and submerges clients in warm, dark chambers that relieve bodies of their senses. These floatation therapy sessions enhance relaxation and open up channels of creativity, freeing brains from the incessant digital stimulation and algebraic speed-limit signs of the outside world. While enclosed inside the tank, clients float in a weightless state in a solution composed of 1,000 pounds of medical-grade Epsom salts and water. There, air, water, and skin become alike—refreshing the nerves while recharging the mind more efficiently than sleep. Complementing floatation sessions are massage services that enhance already relaxed states.

The Groupon Guide to: Modern New Year's Resolutions

Society is changing faster than many of us can keep up, so it’s more important than ever that you dedicate the following year to one or more of these modern New Year’s resolutions:

  • I will gradually shift out all the air bubbles out from beneath the adhesive screen protector of my smartphone or tablet device.

  • I will limit my daily Internet time to 27 hours a day.

  • I will only buy my developing infants garish toys patterned in black, red, and white so the muscles behind their tiny eyes grow stronger with each glance.

  • I will pop only when I trust myself to be able to stop.

  • I will lose weight by joining nature’s gym: parkour.

  • I will finish at least three Kindles.

Can these modern New Year’s resolutions transform your entire life?
