The creative director of Flying Colors Apparel couldn't have known that taking a pair of scissors to an oversized basketball jersey would lead him to rub elbows with celebrities while promoting his apparel at the Sundance Film Festival. According to a 2010 article on Thrillist.com, the idea for Flying Colors' business began when the designer "cut up a Heat jersey, patched elements of it onto a polo shirt, and was bombarded by fans who wanted one." Flying Colors Apparel creations—which were featured in a shopping blog on NBC 6 in 2010—include a signature "fade out" fashion tee and a "collar scholar" polo, whose collar conceals phrases such as "Terrapins," or "GO NAVY".
