In a Nutshell

Donations fund a skin-graft surgery for Thomas the dog to heal his open eye wound and his dangerous infection

The Fine Print

The Issue: Dog with an Infected Eye Wound

Thomas the dog was found on the streets of Los Angeles. He had a large laceration over his right eye—most likely the result of an attack by a larger animal—and was brought to a shelter to rest in medical isolation. Because the wound was not treated immediately, his eye did not heal properly and Thomas was not able to find an adoptive home. When FurKidz 911 rescued Thomas, his eye wound was open and infected, causing him severe pain and the inability to blink. Without surgery, he will eventually lose the eye.

The Campaign: Providing Eye Surgery for Thomas the Dog

If this Grassroots campaign raises $750, then FurKidz 911 can fund an eye surgery to heal Thomas the dog's eye wound, thanks to matching donations from The Getaway Tavern. Donations will be matched up to $750. This surgery will heal the open wound over Thomas’s eye by using a skin graft to cover the exposed area and prevent his tear ducts from inflaming the infection. Later, doctors also will fix the lower area of his eye. Each additional $10 raised will go toward Thomas's other medical expenses.

All donations will be matched up to a $750 total by The Getaway Tavern.

FurKidz 911

FurKidz 911 rescues dogs who are in danger of being euthanized due to injuries or overcrowding at local shelters. The organization’s staff of volunteers rescues the dogs from shelters, fosters and rehabilitates them in their own homes, and transports them to veterinary appointments and adoption events. When the dogs have fully healed, they can meet with potential families until they find a loving permanent home.
