In a Nutshell

Donations fund a trip for teens to meet with and observe local entrepreneurs at innovative Chicago businesses

The Fine Print

The Issue: Benefits of Entrepreneurial Education in Schools

Although few schools offer entrepreneurial programs, its benefits are many, including improved academic performance, increased leadership behavior and interest in attending college, and job readiness, according to a report to the DC Children and Youth Investment Trust corporation.

The Campaign: Connect Youth with Local Business Leaders

If this Grassroots campaign raises $200, then Future Founders Foundation can host an interactive field trip to connect 30–50 teens with new career options and adult mentors. Each additional $200 raised will fund another field trip. The trip will introduce students to Chicago-area entrepreneurs at innovative local companies and provide the chance to observe them at work. Past trips have included a public-speaking and communication-skills workshop at ComedySportz, tours of Google Chicago and Microsoft, and a mobile-app-development boot camp led by Motorola Mobility.

Future Founders Foundation

Future Founders Foundation offers two entrepreneurship and career-exploration programs to help Chicago students create their own successful businesses and compete in the job market. Through the Future Founders program, the organization teaches high-school students how to become entrepreneurs with mentoring sessions, field trips to local businesses, and business-plan competitions. The Connect to the Future program narrows its focus to connecting middle and high-school students with local business professionals through talks with question-and-answer sessions. Then, everyone works on an activity that relates to the speaker’s career, such as designing a menu or a performing a court-case exercise.

The Groupon Guide to: Famous Movie Lines

It's important to take a few moments once in a while to thank Hollywood for all it's done for us. If you want to show your gratitude, simply recite one of the following famous movie quotes:

  • "Frankenstein, my dear, I don't really care" – Red "Fox" Butler, Dragged in the Wind (1942)
  • "Shut up, Mr. De Mille. I'm ready for my close up." – Ingrid Swansong, Swandog de Millionaire (1951)
  • "What's that big grey thing in the water? (gulp) It's…it's…J-J-J-Jaws!" – Jerry Lewis, For Whom the Jaws Jaw (1973)
  • "Make Seven, Up Yours." – Smith Brad, 7e7en (1995)
  • "One does not simply walk into Mordor. One could fly on an eagle to get there probably, but it would be cooler to do that on the way out." – Sean Beans, Ring Lords One: The Fellowship of the Ring Lords (2001)
  • "A million dollars isn’t cool. You know what is cool? Me. (Saxophone solo)" – Justin Tibblesmith, The Online Network (2010)

Based on the true saxophone story.
