Family-Friendly Resort with Indoor Waterpark Minutes from Niagara Falls

Although retractable roofs are most associated with sporting venues, the designers of Americana Waterpark Resort and Spa couldn't help but use the technology for their facility. At the resort's Waves water park, a retractable roof soaks in the sun on warmer days and keeps the park at 84 degrees during Niagara's sometimes-frigid weather. Even with the misty Horseshoe Falls just a 10-minute drive away, the thrill of tube and body water slides up to three stories tall can make it difficult to leave the resort. Gushing fountains and heated whirlpools sprawl across the 25,000-square-foot park. Parents can hang back at the lounge or head over to the resort's spa for a massage, facial, or thermal body-therapy treatment.

Spacious junior suites come with a semiprivate living room and sitting area—large enough to accommodate a family of eight or a barbershop quartet and their clones. Deluxe spa rooms are better suited for couples and smaller groups, with fireplaces and jacuzzi tubs creating an intimate atmosphere. For room service, chefs at the onsite Jack Tanner's cook wild salmon fillets and sugar-cane skewers of sirloin steak and shrimp. Although the grilled fare is upscale, the restaurant maintains a casual vibe with TVs attached to every booth and an outdoor patio lined with potted flowers.

With its glitzy casinos, neon signs, and soggy Elvis impersonators, Niagara Falls has plenty of Vegas-style kitsch. But the waterfalls tend to steal the show, with more than 700,000 gallons of water pouring into the Niagara River per second. The Canadian side of Niagara draws tourists for its views of Horseshoe Falls and boat rides on the popular Maid of the Mist, which has been sailing into the falls' tumultuous basin since 1876. Behind the falls, tunnels provide a different, up-close perspective, and those going to the top of the 775-foot tall Skylon Tower can see the Toronto skyline on a clear day.

Some guests also receive a credit to Seneca Niagara Casino and its more than 4,200 slot machines. Table games range from blackjack and roulette to poker variations such as Let It Ride, where gamers combine cards with the dealer in hopes of getting a winning hand.
