Southern Charm at B&B in Affluent Nashville Suburb

Just a few miles south of downtown Nashville sits Brentwood, an affluent suburb known for its enormous homes—several of which are owned by some of the biggest names in country music. Murray Lane, where you’ll find The Brentwood, a Bed and Breakfast, has a soothing, pastoral vibe. To get to the inn's front entrance, you'll cross a peaceful stream via a 100-year-old bridge and wind your way through trees before reaching the 5-acre property. The brick building has an old southern look, with white columns and rocking chairs idling on the porch. Inside, the innkeepers maintain a commitment to elegance and hospitality. Each morning, the table in the sun-drenched dining room is set with china and crystal, and a chef-prepared gourmet meal is served.

Each room is individually decorated and features American and European antiques, some of which are family heirlooms. The Brentwood luxury suite features an old-fashioned fainting couch, and the Franklin luxury suite has a 10-piece bedroom set that's been in the family for more than 140 years. The Franklin suite is also equipped with a fireplace, a private deck, and a jacuzzi big enough for two. The inn's personal concierge can help you to plan trips to local attractions, such as restaurants, honky-tonks, Civil War sites, and all the best Music City landmarks.

Staff Q&A: Nashville

Brett M. is a deal qualifier for Groupon Getaways. He likes Sheryl Crow and yogurt. Below, Brett offers his advice on the best places to listen to country music, eat Thai food in a trailer, and get the "real, legit Nashville experience."

Describe your perfect day in Nashville. First, take a nice drive into downtown and wait in line at Pancake Pantry for some delicious pancakes. Next, head to Grimley's New & Preloved Music for record shopping. They have everything you'd ever need for your essential record collection. I walked out with classic Dolly Parton on vinyl.

For the real, legit Nashville experience, you'll want to head to either the Bluebird Cafe or the Listening Room to hear some of country's best try out new material or hear the singer-songwriter masterminds behind some of the biggest country and pop hits. After that, I'd head to downtown Franklin and stop in at the Red Pony for dinner and some drinks.

If you're not a bar-going person or want a chill night, catch a movie across the street at the newly renovated and incredibly intimate Franklin Theatre. Or, if the nightlife is your scene, head back downtown and go to one of the honky-tonks. You're apt to see some stars around too: Jack White, Kid Rock, Tom Petty, and Dwight Yoakam have all been spotted sipping whiskeys and brews in the area. And who wouldn't enjoy rockabilly music all night long?

What's the most authentic souvenir you could bring back from here? Authentic leather cowboy boots. You can find every imaginable style for men, women, and kids. Or, if you're like me, you could bring back a cowboy-boot birdfeeder.

Did you pick up any local slang? The test of a true local is correctly pronouncing "Demonbreun Street." It's not as obvious as it looks!

What's the best thing you ate on the trip, and where did you get it? The most unique and incredibly delicious thing I had was Thai food—in a trailer. It's called Thai Phooket, and it's literally an authentic Thai restaurant housed in a doublewide. Don't let appearances fool you: the food is amazing.
