Branson, Missouri: Family-Friendly Theaters and Concert Halls in the Ozarks

If you take a drive through the Ozarks in Missouri, it might seem like an unlikely place to find glittering lights and stage shows—for the most part, it's a rolling plateau of wooded hills, snaking rivers, and limestone bluffs. But follow down Route 76 and you'll find Branson, which looks like a miniature, more family-friendly version of Las Vegas. Dozens of stages and music halls line Branson's main strip, some of which are owned by stars such as Dolly Parton. On any given night you can watch anything from country music performances to circus acrobatics to magic shows.

If you're traveling with kids, Silver Dollar City is a safe bet; it's located about 5 miles west of the strip. The popular theme park is built around Marvel Cave and modeled after an 18th-century frontier town. Here you can hop on a mine-car roller coaster and take a tour by lantern through limestone caverns.

Good Family Experience Reading the reviews I was a bit skeptical going into the trip but it ended up being pretty enjoyable, especially to the kids. I will say when we arrived, I didn't have high hopes. Bright lights, outdated style and overly tacky tourist town feel. Rooms, we were in Building 3 which are double queens, aren't anything better than a Days Inn BUT clean and comfortable. They look exactly like online but not as bright. Food: Pizza was standard and came with our room. Not sure I would have paid $15 for it but since it was "free" it was good. Prices at the concessions were a bit pricey but you don't eat there much. Would have like to try the Miner's Cafe(in waterpark by Treehouse) but didn't get to. Looked to be good prices and nice variety. We passed on eating at the dinner buffet because our kids are picky eaters and it was a bit pricey for what they would have eaten. We did do the breakfast buffet which we found reasonably priced with lots of variety. Coffee is pretty bland and most places in Branson we didn't find flavored creamer BUT our waitress dolled up our coffees and made them manageable. Entertainment: Pets and Giggles didn't have many pets as you would have thought from the pictures. It was fine. Kids laughed a lot with the fart jokes, 6 7, blah blah. Was a little slow after intermission but the performers did have lots of energy and were fun. Putt putt was standard. Got a little crowded at night. Go Karts were fun; tickets came with the "deal" and we probably wouldn't have paid for it if we came again. Laser tag was cheap and actually pretty fun if you get a larger group in the arena. Fun Spot arcade was the best. Very reasonably priced games with lots of tickets for the kids to buy all the normal junk arcades offer for prizes. Pools: Regular pool was standard sized and had a small hot tub in it. Good place for people who just want to let their kids to go in without having to be arms length away. Water park was what I read about. Our kids(11, 8, 6) had a good time. I understand the reviews about the lifeguards and their "power trips" with the whistles and arms length rules for under 48 inch tall kids but I totally get it. You have to draw the line somewhere and if they were relaxed on it, people would let their kids just run free and I can see the safety concerns. The wave pool could be challenging for those shorter kids and the lazy river gets packed pretty fast and has a couple faster paced corners. If you got littles, be prepared to get in and be part of their experience or you're going to hate the water park. Staff: Staff was overall friendly. Water park and Fun Spot staff didn't have great body language but understandable. They're having to deal with chaos for a long period of time and mostly get bad feedback because they rarely were engaged in conversation with people. When we did talk to them they were very friendly and not rude at all. Overall, it was enjoyable experience for the kids. We may not stay on property again but if we come back to Branson we will definitely come onto property for some entertainment.

Really good but plan ahead! Reserved a family package kinda last minute for son, girlfriend, two girls AND me (grandma). Package came with coupons for two adults and up to four kids. So i had to pay for separate toom which was two thirds the cost of the pkg with no coupons for anything. However check in was exceptionally warm and friendly, shout out to Jose, who got me headed in the righ direction. Rooms were country themed but clean and comfortable. We got two pizzas, show tickets for everyone to two shows and some mini golf, bumper car and arcade tickets, however we only got to use one set of show tickets because we were short on time and most of the shows are at the same time, ate the pizza at an odd hurried time, the bumper cars werent opened our second day so we disnt get to use tickets we paid for so as i said with better planning we could have maximized this package better. All the staff we encountered were friendly and professional. Will definitely viait again AND use a package. I believe it was worth it and overall we had a great time.
