1930s Boutique Hotel Offers Quiet Retreat in the Art Deco District

The Art Deco movement swept the Miami Beach scene in the early 1930s. Soon, the waterfront skyline was lined with stylish buildings with stucco façades, all in pastel colors. One of these buildings is the three-star Greenview Hotel, which stands on a corner two blocks from the beach in the heart of the Art Deco District.

Though the Greenview is situated just around the corner from South Beach’s legendary party venues and designer stores, the hotel feels worlds away: it has an outdoor courtyard surrounded by colorful plants and shady trees. The jewel of the Greenview Hotel is its living-room-style lobby, where you can sit down for a complimentary breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The room features streamlined wraparound couches, a silver chandelier, and a wall of staggered mirrors. Its checkered floor is a nod to the Art Deco movement, too; it’s lined with pink and green sherbet-like colors typical of the era. Upstairs, deluxe guests rooms are almost entirely white, from the hardwood floors to the bed linens to the polar-bear butlers.

Miami Beach: Pristine Oceanfront and Latin-Flavored Culture

Miami Beach is set along a series of barrier islands separated from Miami proper by Biscayne Bay. The southernmost portion, South Beach, is known all over the world for its vibrant, pastel-colored Art Deco hotels and rollicking nightlife. But the rest of Miami Beach has charms of its own. Temperatures at the city's pristine beaches stay on the good side of 70 degrees all year long, and the views of the Atlantic Ocean are gorgeous. There’s a seaside boardwalk that stretches for more than 70 blocks, and it’s a scenic pathway for jogging, biking, or conga-lining your way from North Beach to South Beach.

No trip to Miami Beach is complete without sampling some authentic Cuban food, such as the medianoche sandwiches available at many local joints. Latin flavor seeps into the music scene, too; head to the wild Ocean Drive and you can sip a rum-soaked mojito at numerous restaurants with outdoor patios, or go salsa dancing at one of the nightclubs in the same area.
