Art Classes, Meditation Sessions, and Relaxing Recreation on the Sedona Plateau

Thanks largely to the towering red rock formations dotting the landscape, Sedona is one of the world’s most uniquely beautiful places. It’s especially magnificent at sunrise or sunset, when the mountains seem to glow in vivid shades of orange and crimson—a scene that’s enhanced in the winter by a white layer of snow on the mountaintops. Set on the upper Sedona Plateau, Sedona Summit offers spectacular views of the fiery scenery. From the resort, you’ll be near more than 100 miles of interconnected trails running through the mountains. Additionally, guests enjoy access to a slew of family-friendly offerings, including three pools, an indoor crafts center, and a variety of organized classes and activities.

Though the climate in Sedona is significantly cooler than in surrounding areas, temperatures here still hit comfortable high 50s to low 60s during the winter. Youngsters can also amuse themselves at an outdoor play area equipped with a swing set made from redwood trees. If the town's New Age culture piques your interest, sign up for a spiritual vortex tour or partake in a sunrise meditation session. Silk painting, glass etching, and other art classes take place at the resort’s craft studios. And there are several activities throughout the year, ranging from Native American jewelry shows to dive-in movies at the pool—check the calendar for up-to-date information.

All guest rooms at Sedona Summit feature private patios and full or partial kitchens, so you can enjoy a home-cooked meal with a view each night. In the one-bedroom suite, you’ll find a walk-in shower, a deep-soaking tub, and several other luxurious amenities. Inside the living area in the studio room, you’ll find a flat-screen TV and gas fireplace.

Sedona, Arizona: Majestic Rock Formations and Quirky Art Community

Sedona is located in the high deserts of north-central Arizona, at the base of the Mogollon Rim, about a two-hour drive north of Phoenix. Named one of America’s Prettiest Neighborhoods by Forbes, Sedona boasts a breathtaking skyline that’s surrounded by a band of red sandstone formations. Head to the Airport Loop, a 3.5-mile hiking trail located 10 minutes from the hotel, for views of some of Sedona’s most famous landmarks, including Cathedral Rock and Courthouse Butte. A few miles outside of the city, at Slide Rock State Park, visitors can walk across a slippery creek bottom.

Since the early 1900s, artists have been drawn to Sedona's majestic landscape and cubist street signs. Although the art scene has dwindled a bit in recent years, the city's creative spirit is still very much alive at Gallery Row, where more than 50 art shops and boutiques hawk pottery, paintings, and metalwork.
